Principal's Message
We hope everyone had a nice Labour Day weekend and had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather. The warm weather looks to be with us for the next number of days which, I think I can confidently say on behalf of our Sherwood Heights community, we will absolutely take!
While the temperature has been hot, many ‘cool’ moments resonated since the start of classes last week. A big shoutout to our Grade 8 and 9 students who were so accommodating in welcoming our Grade 7’s in navigating their new surroundings and helping them find classes and getting them comfortable.
Returning to school has been simply awesome. Starting with our registration days and leading into the first couple of days of classes, there has been a positive vibe and energy.
As we have highlighted early and often, with the start of any school year, there will be an adjustment period for our students. We know that some students will feel comfortable sooner than others in their new surroundings. Hence, we will continue to be intentional this week with our students in our communication during our grade level assemblies that kicked the week off today. In our grade level assemblies, administration had a chance to go over school expectations and a chance for students to get to know their support team.
We also understand that a return to school can also be overwhelming at times for our families and caregivers. Should you have any questions and/or would like to schedule a meeting with the administration, please do not hesitate to reach out.
This week also brings volleyball tryouts with times for each respective team in the announcements and on the screens around the school. Clubs and activities are also starting. All of our daily announcements are posted to the website should you wish to be further informed.
Stay tuned in next week’s edition of the Cougar chronicle for specific clubs and activities your child can get involved in.
Calendar
School photos - are this Thursday, September 5. When your child is planning their outfit, please try to avoid slogans, logos and big patterns. If your child wears glasses, that’s perfectly fine—photographers are skilled at minimizing glare. Please be aware that all students will be photographed. If you do not wish for your child to have an individual portrait taken, please contact Mrs. Ryan in the school office.
In closing, thank you to our parents and caregivers for a wonderful start to the year. We appreciate your words of encouragement!
Take care and let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
