AMS Weekly Update

What a delightful week it's been with the beautiful and warm weather! As we soak up the sunshine, it's important to ensure that our attire aligns with the school's dress code. We kindly remind all students to dress appropriately. Let's enjoy the weather while maintaining our school's standards of dress.

May 6-10, 2024 is Teacher Appreciation Week! We want to take a moment to express our gratitude for the incredible educators here at Adams Middle School.

Our teachers are the heart and soul of our school community. They work tirelessly to create engaging learning environments, and inspire a love for learning in our students. Their dedication goes far beyond the classroom, as they consistently go above and beyond to ensure the well-being and success of every child.

We invite you to join us in celebrating our outstanding staff. Here are a few ideas for how you can participate:

1. Write a heartfelt thank-you note to your child's teacher expressing your appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
2. Encourage your child to create a special artwork or card to show their gratitude.
3. Share a favorite memory or story about how a teacher has made a positive impact on your child's life.
4. Reach out to your child's teacher through email to let them know how much they are valued. Your words of encouragement mean more than you know and can truly brighten their day.

5th Grade Transition Night has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 6:00-7:00 PM. We are very excited to meet our incoming students for the 24/25 school year.

We are thrilled to announce an incredible opportunity for our 8th-grade students - a class trip to Cedar Point! This exciting excursion is scheduled for May 28th, and we believe it will be an unforgettable experience for all participants.

Trip Details:

• Date: May 28th
• Destination: Cedar Point
• Departure Time: 7:00 AM from Adams Middle School
• Arrival Time at Adams: Students should be at Adams Middle School by 6:45 AM
• Cost per Student: $20.00
• Capacity: We can accommodate 90 students on a first-come, first-served basis
• Inclusions: The cost covers admission to the park, a drink wristband for unlimited soft drinks and water, and a food voucher for lunch.
• Payment: Please turn in permission slips and money to Mrs. Slone in the Main Office.

• Passing all classes
• No suspensions during Q4 Marking Period (April-June)
• Fewer than 3 unexcused absences for May
• Completed all State Testing in April (MStep and PSAT) and the upcoming NWEA test
• Maintain punctuality: Students with 5 or more tardies during May will not be eligible to attend Cedar Point.

On Friday, we had almost 500 students qualify for our PBIS pancake breakfast. We want to extend a huge congratulations to each and every one of our students who demonstrated their commitment to positive behavior throughout the month of April. Your dedication to our PBIS program helps create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone at Adams School. 🌟

We are in the final semester of your student’s middle school experience! To honor our 8th-grade class, Adams will host an 8th-grade “Farewell Dance” on Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

Since this celebration honors the current 8th-grade class and their advancement to high school, we want to ensure that students work hard to achieve their highest possible final grades. To help curb an early onset of spring fever, we are adhering to the following policy:

Students receiving three or more days of suspension (CUMULATIVE) between March 18 and May 30th may not be allowed to attend the dance, subject to administrator discretion. This policy includes both in-school and out-of-school suspensions for any infraction (including tardies).

While this is a special celebration for 8th graders only, it is not considered a formal event. The expected dress is business casual, which may include dresses, slacks, and dress shirts. Student Code of Conduct expectations must be followed when choosing your clothing for the dance. Students should be able to dress appropriately for this event without incurring any excessive expense. Students wearing revealing clothing, such as short dresses/skirts, low-cut tops, strapless tops/dresses, and sagging pants, will be excluded from entry on the evening of the dance. Additionally, no limousines will be allowed on school property. Students are also expected to attend school all day on Thursday, May 30th, the day of the dance.

Please talk with your student about making good choices to ensure they remain eligible to participate in the dance. Please discuss the expectations on the reverse side of this letter with your son or daughter.

Tickets go on sale in mid-May. We appreciate your support and hope all 8th graders will attend this special event. If you have any questions, please contact Adams at 734-419-2375.

As we near the end of the academic year, we are excited to announce our upcoming 8th-grade Award Ceremony, which will be held on May 22, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

This ceremony serves as a momentous occasion to celebrate the outstanding achievements and hard work of our 8th-grade students. It is a time to acknowledge their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence throughout the school year.

Please note that this is an invite-only ceremony, and invitations will be sent out via mail to eligible students and their families.

We cordially invite you and your family to join us for this special event. We believe that parental involvement is crucial in creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment, and we encourage you to attend this ceremony to share in the pride and joy of your child's accomplishments.

During the ceremony, students will be recognized for their achievements in various academic subjects, extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and exemplary behavior. It will be an evening filled with heartfelt speeches, inspiring stories, and well-deserved accolades.

WWCS Summer Programs: We are proud to partner with several community organizations to offer our students a variety of exciting summer programs.

These programs include:

• BUSting with Learning brings literacy resources directly to elementary students, offering free books, school supplies, and engaging games and activities. The initiative extends its reach by traveling through neighborhoods to distribute books directly to children, ensuring resources are accessible to all.
• KinderLit Summer Camp for rising Young 5s and Kindergarten students.

Food Service Survey:

Aramark, our food service provider, is running its Student ViewPOINT survey. They invite parents and students to take this survey together. Your feedback will help enhance our food service program and better meet student needs and expectations. The survey is open until May 13, 2024. Go to www.StudentVP.com and enter passcode 2024.

Take Charge of Your Internet: To ensure all students have the access they need, the State of Michigan is conducting a Broadband Mapping Challenge, which can help secure federal funds to expand quality broadband to homes in our district. Michigan residents can visit the website to check the map for their home address and submit necessary corrections to the state internet map. Regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic success. Please make every effort to ensure your child attends school on time every day and stays throughout the whole day. Consistent attendance throughout the school day allows your child to engage in learning and maximize their educational opportunities fully.

Illness: If your child is not feeling well and cannot attend school, please notify us immediately. Students who are ill should not attend school to prevent the spread of illness to others.

Excused Absences: We understand that there may be instances when your child needs to be absent due to illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or other legitimate reasons. Please notify the school in advance whenever possible to classify the absence as excused.

Unexcused Absences: Unexcused absences negatively impact your child's education. Absences without valid reasons will be considered unexcused, and appropriate actions may be taken per district policy.

Timely reporting of absences helps us maintain accurate attendance records and ensures that your child's absence is properly documented. Absences must be reported within 24 hours.

There are two convenient methods for reporting your child's absence to facilitate efficient communication and accurate attendance records.

• You can notify your child's school through the dedicated attendance line. Please leave a detailed message stating your child's name, grade, and reason for absence.

• You can report absences directly through MiStar, our secure online portal for student information. MiStar provides a user-friendly interface that allows you to submit absences.
