DISTRICT NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 2024
A MESSAGE FROM DR. SCOTT COLLINS
Dear MSD of Decatur Township Families,
After a mild fall season, we have been greeted with winter weather as we start the month of December! With the winter months upon us, it is important to remind our families about our inclement weather planning. Included in this newsletter is information that you may use as guidance when we have winter weather events. Please take time to review this information.
The month of December is always a busy and exciting time in schools. The weeks after Thanksgiving leading up to our winter break are packed with events, such as our holiday programs. These events provide our students with great experiences to highlight their musical, dance, and performance skills. Our fine arts programming throughout the MSD of Decatur Township is led by an outstanding group of educators, and I appreciate their hard work and dedication to our students! Below are the times and dates for our holiday programs, which begin this Friday:

Congratulations to our Decatur Central Hawks who celebrated our first state championship in football at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday evening, November 30th! We were matched up against Warsaw High School and our Hawks played an outstanding game to win 38-24. Thank you to everyone for your support of our football program and for your support of all of our students in our athletic and fine arts programs.
I would also like to recognize our Decatur Central High School and Decatur Middle School cheerleaders! They have had a terrific fall season of competitions. Both our high school and middle school squads won the Mid-State Cheer Competition in the traditional category in November. Additionally, the high school team placed 3rd at the State Cheer Competition in the traditional category and the middle school team won the Cascade Cheer Competition.
Finally, I want to highlight our DCHS theater and music programs for the outstanding performances of “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” during the weekend of November 22-24. I attended the Sunday afternoon performance, and it was so entertaining! We have so many talented actors, singers, and musicians who displayed their skills during these performances. It was one of the best high school musicals I have ever attended, and I am very proud of our students who participated in these performances! We are so proud of our students for their hard work and dedication!
As we finish this first semester of the 2024-2025 school year, I want to thank our parents and families for your support of our students. With the excitement of the holiday season, I want our students to finish strong in their academic work and with attendance. We so very much appreciate the strong home-school partnerships as we work together to Prepare Students to be Tomorrow Ready!
I hope that our entire Hawk Family has a safe and enjoyable holiday season!
Happy Holidays,
Dr. Scott Collins
Superintendent
