Tiger Update
Information/Updates about Pickerington High School Central
Message from Mr. Lanier
Monday begins week five of the school year and students are starting to take summative assessments that measure their progress in their courses. This can lead to stress and anxiety in our students as their grades start to get posted to Infinite Campus. So what should we do if we see a grade that isn't where we want it to be? The most important thing to do is have an open and honest conversation with your student about the grade. Remind them that learning is a PROCESS and one grade does not mean that they are a failure or that they can't do it. One grade is just a snapshot of their learning at the time they took the assessment. The grade itself is simply a talking point for what the student knows and what they still need to learn. If a student can analyze what went wrong that is half the battle. The other half of the battle is developing a plan moving forward to attain the learning. This plan should include seeking support from their teachers and to plug into the support system that we have in place at Central (e.g. structured study hall and Zap Team). Most of the time grades will improve when a student gets organized and develops a plan on how and when to study. Finally, everyone needs to maintain a positive attitude with a focus on improvement. If you can establish this type of approach to learning, the grades will take care of themselves.
Let's have a great week of learning.
Tiger Up,
Mr. Lanier

Attendance Office
Important Message from the Attendance Office
September is Attendance Awareness Month, and we understand the importance of daily attendance for our students' academic and social-emotional growth. Missing a day of school here and there may not seem like much, but absences add up quickly:
Missing just two days a month adds up to 20 days a year.
That's 30 hours of math and 60 hours of reading and writing missed over the school year.
These absences can add up to more than one full year of missed school by graduation!
In the event that a student will be absent from school, parents are asked to notify the school by 10:00 AM by calling the 24-hour Attendance Hotline, 614-548-1801. Additionally, please notify the school office in advance, either by phone or in writing, if your student will need to leave school early. Students must obtain a dismissal pass, and be signed out by the office before being permitted to leave the building. Please be prepared to show appropriate ID in order for the student to be released to you.
Also, please review the bell schedule for the starting times of the start of school along with each class period. It is imperative that students arrive on time for school and for their classes. Arriving on time gives students the maximum amount of instructional time in each class and correlates to success in the classroom. Let's make this a priority for our entire school community!!
