Principal Updates
Dear Allen Eagle Community,
As we approach the two weeks leading up to Winter Break, we’re reaching out to ask for your support in reinforcing our classroom, school, and bus expectations with your children. Recently, we've seen an increase in students needing frequent reminders to stay aligned with our community values. We believe that with your partnership, we can continue to guide our students toward success in both behavior and learning.
Our goal is for all of our Allen Eagles to lead forward with kindness, respect, and to make safe choices each day. Here's how that may look:
- Kindness is looking out for one another, inviting others to join in play, and using words that uplift and encourage.
- Respect involves actively listening, considering how our actions affect others, and acknowledging the feelings, wishes, rights, and traditions of those around us. We often ask students to consider: Is what I’m saying helpful? Is it true? Is it necessary, and most importantly, is it kind?
- Safe Choices are you keeping your hands, feet, bodies, and words safe. We encourage students to think about how their actions contribute to a safe and supportive environment for everyone.
While many of our Allen Eagles are consistently demonstrating these behaviors, we recognize the importance of partnering with you to provide continued support as they learn and grow. We truly appreciate the role you play in reinforcing these values at home, and together, we can help our students continue to thrive.
In partnership,
Mrs. Cruz and Dr. Webster

Winter Closure Guidelines
The Ann Arbor Public School District (AAPS) will determine if conditions present a safety hazard for our students and staff by working with the Durham Transportation Department and in consultation with the City of Ann Arbor Snow Plow Tracking system, Ann Arbor Police Department, Washtenaw County, as well as the other Washtenaw County Superintendents.
School closures will be announced the evening before by 8:00pm, if the weather dictates, or no later than 6:30am if the snow falls overnight. Click the following link to read more about AAPS's Winter Closure Protocols.
If your contact information has changed since the start of school please contact the Allen Office team school to update your phone number and email addresses as we head into these winter months. The school contact information is 734-997-1210 or allen@aaps.k12.mi.us.
When should your child stay home from school?
There has been an increase in illness around the building in the last week or so and would like to partner with you in order to keep all of our student happy and healthy. The AAPS nursing team follows the the guidance form the Washtenaw County Health Department as well as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services when we are considering sending a child home sick from school. The following document When should your child stay home from school? is a great resource when your child wakes up and may not be feeling well. .
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our school nurse Beth Araujo at araujob@aaps.k12.mi.us.
Outdoor Recess and the Winter Weather
As the winter season settles in, we want to let you know that we will be going outdoors for recess every day, as long as the temperature is zero degrees or above, including windchill. If temperatures drop below zero, we will have indoor recess instead.
To make sure your child stays warm and comfortable during outdoor recess, please make sure they come to school each day with appropriate winter gear. This includes a warm winter jacket, snow pants, boots, hat, and waterproof gloves. Additionally, we ask that your child bring a pair of indoor shoes to change into when they arrive at school or come inside after recess, helping us keep snow and mud out of the classrooms.
To make sure lost items can be easily returned to their owner, we ask that you label all of your child’s winter gear with their name so we can quickly return any lost items when they are found.
