MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
Thank you to the Mount Vernon community for your continued support of the Mount Vernon City School District and on this budget for the 2024-2025 school year. The budget reflects our commitment to providing the best possible resources and opportunities for our scholars while ensuring fiscal responsibility for all District taxpayers.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Mount Vernon STEAM Academy partnered with ArtsWestchester’s ArtsMobile for students to explore creative ways to manage stress. Scholars were able to create ceramic masterpieces to express themselves and their feelings. The district consistently works to prioritize the mental well-being of our students. Initiatives like this play a critical role in helping our scholars feel secure and focus on their education.
Nathaniel Edwards, a senior at MVHS, is truly an exceptional scholar worth highlighting. Not only is he a bright student, but he is also passionate about his aspirations to become a commercial pilot. His involvement in our aviation program, which began this school year, has only piqued his curiosity more. I wish Nathaniel nothing but the best during his endeavors through college and beyond.
Please buy tickets to A Night with Sheila Johnson fundraiser for an inspiring discussion and a copy of her book chronicling her life story and the adversity she has overcome! All proceeds will support our scholars and be used for extracurricular programs throughout the District.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
