Important Information: ACT Testing for Grades 9โ11
Dear Parents/Guardians:
On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, eleventh grade students will be administered the ACT with Writing at their respective high schools. The ACT with Writing test is a curriculum-based education and career-planning tool that assesses the mastery of college readiness standards in alignment with the Illinois Learning Standards. Specifically, this online, multiple-choice and constructed response test assesses the academic domains of English Language Arts/Writing, Mathematics, and Science and is required for high school graduation by the Illinois State Board of Education. The ACT test is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities. Lastly, the ACT with Writing assessment is a mandatory accountability measure used to evaluate public high school performance in Illinois.
Additionally, on Thursday, April 10, 2025, ninth and tenth grade students will be administered the PreACT 9 Secure and PreACT Secure, respectively, in their respective high schools. Similar to the ACT, these online, multiple-choice assessments assess the domains of English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science evaluating student progress toward readiness for college and career success. These assessments are mandatory and a component of the Illinois State Board of Education accountability program.
Lastly, individual student score reports will be available in the MyACT Account portal approximately 5-8 weeks after testing. Preparation resources for each assessment may be found at PreACT 9 Secure, PreACT Secure, and ACT.
Please contact your studentโs school for any additional information regarding the ACT with Writing, PreACT 9 Secure, and/or PreACT Secure testing schedule.
Regards,
Patrick W. Nolten, Ph.D.
Assistant Superintendent for Assessment and Accountability
