Fighting for the First
Censorship and book bans are a singular challenge facing public libraries. Attempts to ban or censor materials come in many shapes and from several different directions. When they originate with concerned parents or community members, it is important to engage in difficult conversations. But when they become politicized or performative, it is necessary to understand that an agenda may drive them. Knowing the differences - and being properly equipped with digital tools, skills, and policy frameworks - is key.
Climate Action Planning (Part 1): An Introduction
Climate action requires a focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions combined with increasing community resilience, all through a lens of climate justice. Join this webinar to find out where your time and energy can be best spent in the face of the overwhelming nature of climate action. Learn from library practitioners that have been early adopters of climate action through the award-winning Sustainable Library Certification Program, to help organize your own thinking on how to implement a climate action plan at your library that will have the biggest impact locally and globally.
Transforming Libraries Through Trauma-Informed Services
In this webinar, Beatriz De La Espriella will cover how trauma can change the brain, the impact it has on individuals, and how trauma-informed services can transform the way we provide services to our patrons and connect with our community. You will leave this presentation with the tools you need to serve patrons with empathy, avoid re-traumatization, and strategies that are vital for self-care when providing trauma-informed services.
Reducing Burnout for Academic Library Workers who have Complicated Lives (AKA: Everybody)
Jessica Lee, Mike Holt, and Robert Griggs-Taylor have researched the experience of parents and burnout. But they recognize that everyone has complicated lives. Individual practices that alleviate and reduce burnout are to everyone’s benefit, including parents of minor children. In this presentation, they will reach into their survey data and examine the interventions used to prevent burnout, along with institutional measures that respondents felt would make positive impacts on their immediate lives.

Community Collaborations Make Library Programming Successful
Partnering with nonprofits, civic groups and artists are just a few ways to create lasting connections between your library and the community. From Programming Librarian, read an article about a library leveraging community partnerships to have a successful hosting of the Americans and the Holocaust traveling exhibition.
Building Social Capital: How Libraries are Helping Communities Connect
"As part of the National Impact of Library Public Programs Assessment (NILPPA), Programming Librarian's Knology sat down with advisors from across the library sector to discuss the impacts libraries aim to have on the communities they serve. During these discussions, we also brainstormed ways to track these impacts across various domains of community life. Two important ideas emerged from our conversations; Impact Domains and Indicators."
