Principal's Message
Hello Parents,
Happy Friday, happy spring and welcome to Spring Break! I hope you have all stayed dry today with this steady rain. I know we are all looking forward to this break in front of us and spending time with our families.
We have had a busy week at school highlighted by our monthly assembly on Wednesday. The theme for our assembly was Women's History Month and we featured our school's namesake Abigail Scott Duniway. We were fortunate to have an author visit from Duniway Community Member Brenda Niman who has recently published a book, "She Forgot her Manners and Got the Vote: The Pioneering Life of Abigail Scott Duniway" https://www.brendaniman.com/. Brenda and her family members (Allison DeWitz Zimmerman, Carol DeWitz Brandon, and Mike Niman) narrated key portions of her book accompanied by costumes and piano music. In addition, our Music Teacher Lisa Adams performed an original song she wrote about Abigail Duniway's life (with students singing along). Finally, our assembly emcees and student council members shared the stories of women from history who they admire.
As we head off for Spring Break, I wish you all a restful and enjoyable break with your families. We look forward to seeing everyone back here at school on Monday, March 31.

Duniway Foundation Update
Hello Duniway Community!
We have some exciting Duniway Educational Foundation funding news just in time for our spring fundraising events! Our team has been working diligently within PPS guidelines, and we’re thrilled to announce a new partnership with Duniway All Stars (DAS), a nonprofit that has long supported our students.
Our goal is to raise enough funds to bring additional support services to Duniway through this program, directly benefiting students and teachers. Any funds raised beyond, will help bridge next year’s funding gap for Reading Results. This means that for the 2025-2026 school year, the Duniway Educational Foundation will match the Duniway PTA’s contribution, replacing the funding that PPS has previously provided.
How Will Auction Funds Be Used?
Next year, Duniway will partner with Duniway All Stars (DAS), a nonprofit that will provide critical support services for our students and teachers. These trained professionals will assist with:
- Reading and math interventions
- Social and emotional support
- Individual and small-group student support
Given our growing class sizes and future budget cuts on the horizon, we see this partnership as an essential step to ensure every student gets the help they need throughout the school day.
Is this the same as having Educational Assistants?
No. Educational Assistants are hired by PPS. DAS staff will be contracted to provide targeted, school-specific support, similar to how we’ve worked with Reading Results in the past—but with an even broader scope of student and teacher assistance.
