A Message From Mr. Lynch
We’ve had a fantastic week here at Brimfield Elementary! Fall activities have been in full swing, and it was a joy to see the creativity and excitement at 3rd grade's Jack-o-Lantern Jubilee yesterday. Thank you to everyone who helped make this week so memorable for our students.
As a quick reminder, there will be no school on Monday and Tuesday as our staff will be participating in professional development sessions. A few parent-teacher conferences will also take place during these days.
Looking ahead, please mark your calendars for our evening parent-teacher conferences on November 7th and 14th. We hope to see you there for these important conversations about your child's progress.
Additionally, we are excited to celebrate our Veterans Day program on November 11th. This is always a meaningful event, and we welcome families to join us in honoring our veterans.
Thank you for your continued support, and have a wonderful weekend!

Art To Remember
Order forms for Art to Remember will be sent home next Friday, November 2nd. This program gives you the opportunity to purchase products (Christmas ornaments, magnets, mugs, shirts, etc.) customized with your child's art. You will be able to order online for two weeks (until November 17th) in order to receive items before winter break. You can choose to have orders mailed directly to you or to the school. If you miss the November deadline you can also place an order online anytime year-round (https://arttoremember.com/school/VKN2CY) and have it shipped directly to you. These make great gifts--check out some sample products in the front showcase! If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Madden.

Empowering Your Elementary School Child: Navigating Challenges Together
As parents, one of the most valuable gifts you can give your elementary school child is the support they need to overcome challenges and setbacks. Every child faces obstacles on their journey, whether it's academic, social, or personal. By providing the right guidance and encouragement, you can help your child develop essential life skills and a resilient mindset that will serve them well throughout their lives. Here are some strategies to help you empower your child through challenges:
1. Foster Open Communication:
Create an environment where your child feels comfortable discussing their concerns and problems. Listen attentively without judgment and validate their feelings. When they know they can come to you with anything, it builds trust and helps them feel understood.
2. Teach Problem-Solving:
Guide your child in finding solutions to their challenges. Encourage them to brainstorm different approaches and consider the pros and cons of each. Help them understand that setbacks are opportunities to learn and grow.
3. Set Realistic Expectations:
While it's important to challenge your child, setting unrealistic expectations can lead to frustration. Understand their strengths and limitations, and help them set achievable goals. Celebrate their successes, no matter how small, to boost their confidence.
4. Encourage Perseverance:
Challenges can be tough, but teach your child the value of perseverance. Share stories of your own experiences overcoming obstacles to inspire them. Remind them that effort and determination are key to success.
5. Focus on Effort, Not Just Results:
Shift the focus from the outcome to the effort your child puts in. Praise their hard work, dedication, and willingness to try, even if things don't go as planned. This helps them understand that growth comes from the process, not just the end result.
6. Promote a Growth Mindset:
Teach your child about the concept of a growth mindset, where they believe their abilities can be developed through effort and learning. Encourage them to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn, rather than as indicators of their limitations.
7. Provide a Safe Space:
Ensure your child knows that it's okay to make mistakes. Create an environment where failures are seen as stepping stones toward improvement. When they know they won't be criticized for trying new things, they'll be more willing to take risks.
8. Offer Guidance, Not Solutions:
While your instinct might be to solve your child's problems, giving them space to find solutions on their own fosters independence. Ask guiding questions that help them think critically and creatively.
9. Explore Interests and Passions:
Encourage your child to explore different activities and hobbies. When they discover their interests, they gain a sense of purpose and motivation to overcome challenges related to those areas.
10. Lead by Example:
Demonstrate resilience in your own life. Let your child see that you also face challenges and setbacks, but you handle them with a positive attitude and determination.
11. Celebrate Progress:
Celebrate every step forward, no matter how small. Acknowledging your child's efforts reinforces their commitment to overcoming challenges.
12. Seek Professional Help When Needed:
If you notice persistent struggles that significantly impact your child's well-being or development, consider seeking guidance from teachers, school counselors, or mental health professionals. They can offer specialized support to address specific challenges.
In the journey of growing up, challenges are inevitable. Your role as a parent is to provide a safe and nurturing space for your child to face these challenges head-on. By teaching them essential skills and fostering a resilient mindset, you're equipping them with tools that will serve them not only during their elementary school years but also throughout their entire lives.

PBIS
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach designed to foster a positive school climate by encouraging appropriate behavior. It focuses on teaching and reinforcing clear behavioral expectations in a consistent and structured way. PBIS emphasizes prevention rather than punishment, using data to identify and support students who may need additional help. By recognizing and rewarding positive behavior, PBIS aims to improve student engagement, reduce disciplinary issues, and create a more inclusive, respectful learning environment where all students can thrive academically and socially.
At Brimfield Elementary, students help to identify positive expectations and receive incentives for appropriate behavior. Your child may be chosen to participate in the Principal’s Club, receive a red SOAR ticket, or earn a Principal’s Good News call. The staff at Brimfield works hard to use positive words with students. Instead of telling a child to “stop running” in the hallway, the direction might be to “move throughout the halls in a controlled and safe manner”. Thank you, in advance, for partnering with us and using positive statements with your child. We are very proud of our PBIS program and look forward to celebrating the great behavior of our young Falcons!
