A Message from Ms. McKay
We have had such a wonderful start to school this year. Each day, it is such a treat to see the students and their joyful excitement here at school! In September, it is typical that kiddos are extra tired and sometimes cranky when they get home from school. This is usually because the children are working so hard at school, getting used to the routines and procedures and days that can feel very long! As we get going and move into October and November, that back-to-school tiredness (and sometimes extra feelings) should ease as students get into the practice of coming to school.
We enjoyed seeing so many families at our Open House this past month. One of our school goals is to find more opportunities to bring our families into school to see what we are all working on, and build our community. Since the pandemic and our school fire, we have been "rebuilding" in many ways and parent connections to school is one area we still want to grow. Please be on the lookout for more opportunities to be part of your child's school experience as the year progresses!
The PTA is another great way to be involved in school. This group meets monthly, and supports students and teachers at both Dike-Newell and Fisher-Mitchell Schools. The next meeting will be Wednesday, October 9th at Dike-Newell School. Feel free to come join us, and if you cannot attend be sure to check the Bath Elementary PTA Facebook page for information on upcoming events, including the "Monster Mash!"
Finally, as we move into October, a quick preview of coming events. We are gearing up for some first field trips, along with school picture day. We also have the long weekend in a couple of weeks, with a Professional Development Day Friday the 11th (no school for students) and No School on Monday the 14th. Later in the month we have our first Dental Clinic, which is a great opportunity for children to get some teeth cleaned here at school, and we have a community flu clinic after school if families want to get flu vaccinations.
The end of October is Halloween, and this year it falls on a Thursday. In school, we are sensitive to the many different ways people celebrate or do not celebrate, as well as the feelings of the young children who attend school. While costumes and candy are fun, we respectfully remind families that costumes and candy should NOT come to school. Thank you for helping us with this, so that our school day can be comfortable and fun for everyone!
Thank you for a wonderful start to our school year! Dike-Newell is the best place to be!
