Tustumena Elementary Newsletter
December 2, 2015
First round of SEM is complete
We knew it was going to be fun, but that is an understatement. Every student at Tustumena was engaged in their Enrichment Cluster on Monday afternoon. I had the pleasure of watching them learn about water colors, cooking, karate, and more. Please be sure to ask your child about their enrichment cluster and what they learned.
Our next enrichment sessions will be this Thursday and Friday. Our teachers will take what they learned about the structure and content of the enrichment clusters and apply that learning for the next session.
My deepest appreciation goes out to the staff and community members who lead the clusters. A lot of planning and preparation goes into developing and instructing this type of enrichment for every student. "Thank you," to all who put in the extra effort to make our School Enrichment Model, extra special.

Santa's Shop... Call for volunteers
Next week, December 7-10, we will have a Santa Shop. This means two things:
- Every student will get a chance to shop for everyone in their household. The presents will come home, bagged and ready for under your tree.
- We will need volunteers to help the shoppers. Please contact Mrs. Hopkins (260-1381) if you can volunteer for as little as 1/2 an hour any time between 9:30 and 11:30.
The Santa Shop is made possible through the generosity of one of your community members and our PTO. Please do not send money. The gifts are token in size but very thoughtful.
If you have any questions or if you can volunteer to help, please give us a call.
Thank you.
Looking for volunteers- extra hands in Enrichment Clusters
Health tip - From Mrs. Abel
“People can learn to keep themselves focused on tasks by using a timer. Set the timer to go off at the desired interval (e.g. every 5 minutes) and then prompt a self-check with correction if needed (e.g. “Am I doing what I need to be doing?”). The timer can be gradually faded as self-checking becomes automatic.”
