A Note From Principal Reilly
Happy Holidays Hamline Families!
It is hard to believe the New Year is upon us. One of the themes we have been focusing on this school year is JOY. Spreading joy and receiving joy are contagious. We have a bulletin board in our hallways where children identify what brings them joy. Take a look at the photo below as it is sure to put a smile on your face. During this holiday season may your days be filled with joyous moments and your year filled with love, health and laughter.
Your children are a gift that you have chosen to share with us. Thank you!
Warmest Wishes,
Principal Reilly
Husky Pack Updates
Here are some ways that families can support teachers and staff. We hope you can find a way to help continue building our awesome Hamline community!
1. Make a teacher/staff shout out! A quick note of encouragement can go a long way. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfIbC1K5mj84Ugu4btRYHQr8DRN6_tcCLJUj_uUaHcpIXjn_Q/viewform (boosted from a previous newsletter from Principal Reilly.)
2. Volunteer with your child's teacher directly. Whether it's sorting books or hanging artwork, there are many needs teachers can use help with. Many of these can be one-time offerings so don't have to be a large time commitment. Talk to your child's teacher for opportunities. We're hoping to get a more streamlined wishlist-style process going for this in the future.
3. Find and support a Donors Choose page! There are some larger needs currently being worked on at Hamline. Check out the needs as well as the needs that have already been met!
https://www.donorschoose.org/schools/minnesota/saint-paul-public-schools/hancock-hamline-univ-magnet-school/76101
4. We've created a Target wishlist for teacher/staff supply needs. Teachers will ideally be adding to this over the course of the year, so check back to see if there are needs you can help with. This works like a wedding or baby registry where families can make a purchase that then gets shipped directly*. https://www.target.com/gift-registry/gift/teacherneeds24-25
*Currently this is set up to ship to a family house because of the challenges with shipping during non-school hours. Please contact hamlineelementarypta@gmail.com if you would be interested in being this shipping location, organizing which supplies go to which teachers, and doing a delivery to the school every few weeks, depending on volume.
Notes from the Hamline to Hamline Collaboration
Our H2H Collaboration team is thrilled with the growth of all of our programs this fall and continues to plan for some amazing grade-level and all-school experiences in the winter and spring of 2024. We are also preparing for some program adjustments during January-Term (J-Term), a time when Hamline University students’ schedules may be impacted by J-Term courses or study abroad opportunities. Towards the end of January our programs will settle into their “spring” routine. As always, we’re happy to hear from our Hamline Elementary community so please send us your questions, suggestions, and reflections. Thank you so much for your support and best wishes for a wonderful winter break!

Saint Paul Public School News & Information
Dr. Stacie Stanley selected as SPPS Superintendent
The SPPS Board of Education has selected Dr. Stacie Stanley as the preferred candidate for the next superintendent of Saint Paul Public Schools.
Dr. Stanley brings strong leadership experience and expertise in building relationships with the community, improving student outcomes, and enhancing equity in diverse school districts. As the most diverse and second-largest school district in Minnesota, SPPS needs a leader who understands the power of listening, collaborating, and delivering results for our students and the community. We are confident that Dr. Stanley has the vision and experience needed to move our district forward and ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
This decision concludes a six-month search process, supported by BWP & Associates, that involved extensive community input gathered through surveys, community meetings and group feedback sessions. We are grateful to the community for providing valuable feedback throughout the superintendent search.
The offer is contingent on contract negotiations between the Board and Dr. Stanley, with plans to finalize an agreement in January. Interim Superintendent Dr. John Thein will continue to serve in his current role and will offer support during Dr. Stanley’s transition.
More information will be available after the superintendent’s contract is finalized. Thank you for your engagement throughout this process, and have a wonderful winter break.

SPPS Winter Weather Plan
SPPS follows state education guidelines that allow districts to offer e-learning days due to inclement weather. The district may call a non-instructional day or e-learning day if:
Wind chills are forecasted to be -35 or colder at 6 a.m. OR
Snow makes it too difficult for our students and staff to safely get to school
The Superintendent also reserves the right to close school due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, if necessary. Students should take their iPads and chargers home every day to be prepared for the possibility of an e-learning day due to weather conditions.
Please note that delayed start times and early dismissals are not logistically possible in Saint Paul Public Schools.
Effective immediately, the following Winter Weather Plan is in place for Saint Paul Public Schools:
The first two days SPPS cancels school for inclement weather will be non-instructional days. Students should not report to school, and there will be NO e-learning.
After two non-instructional days due to weather, the decision to use an e-learning day or a non-instructional day is at the discretion of the Superintendent.
