WEEKLY WONDERS
Week of September 2, 2024
"Movement of the hand is essential. Little children revealed that the development of the mind is stimulated by the movement of the hands. The hand is the instrument of the intelligence. The child needs to manipulate objects and to gain experience by touching and handling." - Dr. Maria Montessori (The 1946 London Lectures, p. 36)

Student Device Loan Forms
Update as of 8/30/24: We have not received "Student Device Loan Forms" (either a paper form or a digital response in PowerSchool) for 176 of our students. We need to have these on file for your student so we know that you, as their guardian, are accepting your student's use of a device. SCCPSS currently requires this form to be submitted every school year.
The deadline to purchase the Family Protection Plan (FPP) for your student's device through School Cash Online is August 31st. Please note: Regardless of whether you have accepted the FPP on the form or not, the FPP is not active UNTIL YOU PAY FOR IT ($25).
If you haven't done so already, please fill out the "Student Device Loan Form" either through PowerSchool (preferred) or by downloading the form attached below and returning it to school with your student as soon as possible. This is for all kindergarten through 8th grade students. A paper copy can be sent home with your student by request.
If you need help getting PowerSchool Parent Access, reach out to Ms. Cara (Cara.Bunkley@sccpss.com).
More information is on the Ellis website.
If you have any questions, reach out to Ms. Lisa (lisa.odonnell@sccpss.com)

PTA Primary Playdate
If you have a Pre-K or Kindergarten student, please join our PTA for a playdate at Hull Park on Saturday, September 7th, from 1:30-3pm.
This is a great opportunity to meet other families in our school community. We hope to see you there!
Grace & Courtesy Focus
Throughout the school year, Ellis has a school-wide focus on certain positive character traits. Each teacher may choose to highlight these "Grace & Courtesy" emphases differently, but as a school we follow a general common curriculum.
From August 26th - September 13th, our school-wide Grace & Courtesy emphasis is KINDNESS.
The Language of Kindness from "The Self-Awakened Child" Series by Jonathan Wolff:
- When I care about how other people feel as much as I care about my own feelings, I am being kind.
- When I am a good friend to others-- to people, to animals, and plants-- and help them be the best they can be, I am being kind.
- When I treat myself, other people, animals, and plants gently and with love, I am being kind.
School Counseling
At Charles Ellis Montessori Academy, we strive to create a welcoming and respectful environment for all students. We are proud that our school is a positive place to create, learn, and wonder.
Please encourage your children to continue to respect our school building by reminding them to use materials appropriately, and to show responsibility for self, as well as kindness toward self and others throughout our school. By working together, we can keep our school a place where everyone feels proud to learn and grow. We will also continue to encourage these themes throughout our comprehensive school counseling program. Thank you for your continued support!
Let us know if we can be of assistance to you and yours. Resources are available on the School Counseling Website including a list of mental health professionals.
