Referendum Overview
Vote November 8, 2022
Dear District 41 Community,
After a long and in-depth process of community engagement, work with the Board of Education and communicating information about the proposed referendum projects, the community will vote on our referendum next Tuesday. Although there is never a perfect plan, the plan the Board put forward, if approved, will build a new school, provide more space in all of the elementary schools, allow us to offer full-day kindergarten for all children in all schools, and also build a new early learning center for preschool. This plan will take the district into the future while maintaining financial stability.
After many plans were discussed and evaluated throughout the years in District 41, this plan was chosen by the Board because it is the only plan that accomplishes all of the goals that we have heard are desired by the community, such as:
- Offering full-day kindergarten for all families at all elementary schools
- Creating space to grow and to provide services
- Maintaining low class sizes
- Supporting our youngest learners
- Staying fiscally responsible
- Creating a future-focused comprehensive plan
- Maintaining academic excellence and learning environments

On November 8, 2022, Glen Ellyn School District 41 residents will vote on a $49 million bond referendum that will solve our significant space issues and provide full-day kindergarten for all families.
The proposed plan would build:
1) New elementary school on our Spalding Park property
2) New early learning preschool center addition to our Churchill School
If successful, the referendum will allow the district to:
Keep Class Sizes Small
Offer Full-Day Kindergarten for All Families
Continue Building Innovative Opportunities for Kids
If a new school is built, boundary changes will be necessary.
A special Board of Education meeting took place on Wednesday, October 5, and included information about proposed boundary changes that could be implemented if the referendum passes and a new K-5 school is built. To watch the meeting CLICK HERE

The District and the Board will continue to assess the community data and adjust the boundary plans as appropriate over the years prior to opening a new school.
To support the community’s investment in our schools, the district is pledging $18 million in reserves towards this important work. This is possible because of the district’s conservative approach to spending, focusing on needs over wants and spending on students instead of administration. Our district is fiscally responsible, with the lowest tax rate, lowest cost per student, and highest student-to-administrator ratio of all Glenbard feeder schools.
Solving our district’s space needs would allow us to provide better learning environments, helping our students thrive and continuing our commitment to excellence.
