SAS Update
May 3, 2019
THE WEEK AHEAD
PARADE DAY IS HERE!
We need as many school families as possible to join us in the Parade on Saturday, May 4 to pass out candy and fliers! We do have a float this year, so there is the opportunity for the little ones and others who need to ride. Wagons and strollers are also welcome. IF YOU HAVE ANY STAR WARS GEAR, PLEASE WEAR IT! Or you can wear any St. Ann spiritwear: walk as a team in uniform, wear gym clothes, Scout uniforms, St. Ann tie-dye spirit shirts, any Green & Gold will do. Everyone in the parade will receive a hot dog when we reach Lan-Oak Park. And your volunteer hours for next year will begin to accumulate! SignUp here so you don't have to track them yourself.
The parade lines up on Wentworth Ave. Our position is #18, a block or two north of Walgreens. All walkers should be there between 1:30 and 1:45 on Parade Day. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. May the 4th be with you!
Family Mass
Please join us for our May Family Mass! If your child is participating, please have him/her wear school uniform.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 8,
9:00 a.m. in EXT DAY

Teacher Appreciation Week
Monday, May 6 - Everything’s Coming Up Roses (and daisies, and tulips, and lilacs . . .)
Send a flower from your garden to make a beautiful class bouquet.
Tuesday, May 7 - Compliments of the Garden
Please have your child think of a nice compliment to pay his or her teacher. Write these on the petal that was sent home to make up a classroom flower and send into the office by Monday, May 6 (with child’s name and grade on the back--please don’t send to the teacher).
Wednesday, May 8 - Showers of Thanks
Create a special homemade card for the teacher, or fill out and decorate the template that went home. Have your child present them to their teacher today.
Thursday, May 9 - Simple Gifts
Treat your teacher to a small gift.
Friday, May 10 - A Garden Is an Earthly Rainbow
Each teacher will choose a color for her class to wear on this dress down day.
We encourage parents to remember the other SAS staffers during this week as well. So please feel free to find little ways to thank the office staff, the specialists (Art/PE, Music, Library, Computers), and our custodian. HSA will provide a teacher/staff luncheon on Friday. If you would like to help out by providing a dessert or other amenities during Teacher Appreciation Week, please call Max Navia at 773-619-1251.

skating party
THURSDAY, MAY 9, 5:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
SAS has been holding skating parties at the Lynwood Sport Center for over four decades now. Come join the tradition! Kids of all ages are invited; there are accommodations for even the youngest skaters. Admission is $6, and skate rentals are $2.50 (they even have learn-to-skate skates for the little ones, and "walkers" on wheels are available for $4 rental fee). Parents/guardians are not required to skate. Every student does need to be accompanied by a responsible adult who will sign them in and out and remain on the premises for the duration of the event. This means that if you are unable to stay, another adult (18 or over) must be willing to take responsibility for your child in your absence. Our April Skating Party is being hosted by the 5th Grade Parents--watch for communication from your teacher or head room parent regarding signing up.
