Stayton Elementary School
October Cheetah News
Principal's Message
October is a very busy month for students and staff at SES. October is fire safety awareness month. Students will participate in fire safety awareness training with the Stayton Fire Department on October 14th.
In October, we also hold our state required annual teaching and practicing of our lock down drill with students. This practice drill provides students and staff time to review plans and practice, so that everyone can remain safe in the event of an actual emergency. It is also National Shake Out Day on October 17th. We will practice an earthquake drill with our students that day. We will also be practicing our monthly fire drill procedures.
Third grade classes will begin swimming lessons this month. They will also be heading to Silver Falls for a field trip. Second grade will be doing a walking field trip to help support the learning around their communities unit.
First grade will be heading to the Gilbert House while kindergarten heads to the pumpkin patch.
2019-20 SES Goals
Immediate Goal 1: By June 2020, SES will increase our average percent proficient on the Smarter Balanced Assessments, based on cohort performance, from 2018-19 school year.
Intermediate Goal 2: By June 2020, Stayton Elementary will score at least a level 1 (meets certification standards) in the areas of instruction, culture, leadership and systems on their AVID certification.
Intermediate Goal 3: By June 2020, SES teachers will implement RULER per year 1 requirements established by the WESD grant.
By June 2020, all schools in the NSSD will be considered Outstanding Schools that create future citizens, parents and an educated workforce that contribute to the community by preparing students academically and socially for success at the high school level based on DuFour's 8 characteristics of an outstanding school:
* Safe and orderly environment
* Climate of high expectations for student achievement in a college going environment
* Dynamic instructional leadership
* Collaborative work behavior with a focus on specific products
* Clear and focused mission
I will break down and discuss these goals in more detail in future issues.
Thanks,
Wendy

Student Drop Off and Pick Up
When picking up your child after school, if you pull up to the curb, you need to remain in your vehicle and drive away as soon as you receive your child. If you walk up to the front of the building, please park your vehicle in the designated parking spots.
It is important to help teach your children to be aware of the regular traffic that is coming and going through our parking lot.
