GREETINGS FROM DR. BROWN
Dear Parents,
Happy February to everyone!
This month we celebrate Black History.
Last month in December AEVA held it's first Oscar's Night recognizing over 140 elementary students who demonstrated outstanding academic achievements to earn honor roll. Parents continue to encourage and support your child so they can continue to maintain academic success. Secondary grades (6-12) will have their Oscar's Night on February 9th at 4pm. Please be sure to attend.
Parents and students are required to have a signed master agreement on file at the academy in order to continue being enrolled. Reminder, students with out a MA will not be able to earn attendance credit. Students must be able to earn attendance in order to remain part of the Arts and Entertainment.
SHOUT OUT to Natalie Koyuki Imai. Natalie, 4th grade student in Ms. Harris' class received recognition from Superintendent Carvalho as her artwork was selected to appear on his winter holiday postcard. Congratulations Natalie!!!!
NEED EXTRA HELP AEVA'S GOT YOU! Saturday school will begin on February 4. Parents speak to your child's teacher about participating in our Saturday school intervention. Saturday school begins this Saturday, Feb. 4th.
ATTENTION! 12 grade students: Only 29 more student need to complete their Service Learning Project. Students reach out to your counselor Ms. Vargas to get assistance completing your projects. Projects are due March 1st.
Elementary Last week, students who are not meeting grade level standards received an unsatisfactory notice. Please reach out to your child's teacher to see what intervention options are available. All 3rd grade students had the opportunity to hear from Mr. Boutte, Jr., a costume illustration for Motion Pictures in January. He was so phenomenal! I have asked him to return to speak all AEVA students on February 27th. Students do not miss this opportunity!
IMPORTANT: Students in grade 3 through 11 will need to have a district device in order to complete SBAC testing. If you do not have a district device be sure to request one as soon as possible from https://device.lausd.net/.
Change the World with PROJECT BASED LEARNING. All students have been given an opportunity to design a project set around challenges and/or problems that you could face in the real world. Ask your child what is the PBL project. All projects are due March 30th.
FITNESS TEST Students in grades 5, 7 and 9 will be given the opportunity to participate starting February 1st. Speak to your child's teacher to sign up for a specific location. .
Attention parents of High School students, the Art and Entertainment Virtual Academy has received WASC Initial accreditation. ACS WASC accreditation is an ongoing six-year cycle of quality whereby the school demonstrates the capacity, commitment, and competence to support high-quality student learning and continuous school improvement. Because of this approval, all our seniors who graduate will receive a valid diploma which allows them to pursue higher education and work in their chosen field. Thank you again to every parent and student who volunteered to be interviewed by WASC evaluators.
Parents, please be reminded that students can only remain in our Independent Study program if they complete their assignments and attend classes. In addition, please remember the agreed Master Agreement responsibilities for all.
Thanks for being an essential member of our AEVA family!
