VMMS Community Connection
Week of February 3, 2025 - February 7, 2025
Greetings, Viper Community!
It was a terrific week at VMMS as we celebrated Kindness with various optional lunchtime activities such as writing a note of appreciation for a staff member or playing a round of kindness bingo for a friendly competition. Thank you to our VMMS counseling department for engaging Viper students in acts of kindness.
Speaking of our counseling department, we honor their contributions to the VMMS school community especially this week for National School Counseling Week! Please check out the "Counseling Corner" website for more information regarding the services they provide for Vipers everyday. There are lots of resources and announcements that are updated regularly.
Our Viper counselors provide a continuum of social-emotional supports for students. They have conducted multiple lessons this year in classrooms across the grades on topics like healthy relationships and attendance awareness. Each Viper is assigned a counselor based on their last name alpha order. The individualized relationships that counselors make with students is essential as they navigate all the trials and triumphs of middle school.
Check with your Viper if they have connected with their counselor this year and engage in dialogue about how their counselor can support them. If your Viper has worked with their counselor, encourage them to share a gesture of gratitude as we appreciate the counseling department this week.
Please call the office at (760) 726-5766 or visit the office M-F from 8:00-4:00 if you have any questions or need assistance.
Thank you!

Option 2: Picture and Personalized Message ($20)
Submit a photo of your choice (e.g., a recent picture or family photo) along with a personalized message for your student. This tribute will appear in a dedicated section of the yearbook. The cost for this option is $20. Payment must be made in the VMMS front office. Cash or check only!
To submit your selection for either option and upload your picture, please complete the Google Form HERE.
EPIC Viper Reminder: Lunchtime Reminders
Lunchtime at VMMS is busy and vibrant with Vipers taking a break from all the rigorous learning that occurred in their morning classes. Administration, campus supervisors, and various support staff are present to supervise all students.
During our 40 minute lunch block, students are expected to stay in the lunch area the 1st 20 minutes to eat their lunch. Then for the remainder of the time, the field, blacktop, library, and classrooms for clubs/teacher connection/extra help are available for students to partake.
We are always encouraging The Viper Way of being EPIC during this exciting daily routine. However, we would like to revisit a few reminders to ensure all Vipers have a safe and enjoyable lunch.
1. Pick up your trash: The mantra is to "leave it cleaner than you found in." This establishes a shared responsibility that we pick up after ourselves and also be a positive impact by picking up trash around us that may not be ours. Vipers who are "caught being good" and throwing away trash without prompting, often get a Viper Way pass that gets students in front of a line pass in the lunch/equipment line or a spin on an ASB prize wheel. (See picture)
2. Stay in the designated areas during lunch: Students must stay in the lunch area and designated places like the field & blacktop. Vipers may not roam campus or hang out in restrooms. Any student that goes to a classroom during lunch, must have a pass from the teacher.
3. Maintain principled behavior at all times: While lunch is free time, all school rules are enforced and important so all students feel safe. Others belongings should NEVER be moved/touched if the person is in the restroom or playing in a designated area.
4. Additional Reminders: Students have access to the VUSD Wavecrest Cafe free lunch and should take advantage of eating to ensure they have the fuel to power their learning. We cannot stress enough how important it is for Vipers to eat a healthy lunch. Please be aware that ENERGY DRINKS and glass bottles are strictly prohibited for students on campus. (See handbook pg. 21)
Please have a conversation with your Viper about their typical lunchtime activities and encourage them to follow the Viper Way!
