Yellow Jacket Family News
June 10, 2024
Happy Summer! This is the LAST Issue for SY 24!
Greetings Yellow Jacket Families!!!
As the school year draws to a close, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every member of our school community. This year has been one of growth, learning, and shared achievements, and I am proud to reflect on the many successes we have experienced together.
Highlights of the Year:
- Academic Achievements: Our students have excelled in their certifications in our CISCO program, Cosmetology, and Fire Cadets programs. We saw a significant increase in overall GPAs and a remarkable number of students received scholarships and college acceptances, including 16 student athletes playing in college and $3 million in scholarships.
- Extracurricular Success: Our regional championship were throughout the school year from our Wrestling, Girl's Basketball, Baseball, and Track teams! We also had national recognitions for our Marching Band and our Cheerleaders!
- Community Involvement: This year, we strengthened our bonds with the community through various partnerships. Some highlights are our partnership with the Boris P Henson Foundation and our first annual Mental Health Fair. We also had many cultural festivals including the Hispanic Heritage Festival, Black History Month Festival, Women's History Month Festivities, and Asian American Pacific Islander Festival
- PTSA: Thanks to the efforts of our PTSA, we are now fully accredited and can accept membership dues! We are excited for great things in the future!
There are 2 full days & 2 half days left in school! FINALS ARE OVER! Student do have the opportunity to do make ups on Monday and Tuesday. The schedule is below. Please make sure that your child received a good night rest and is prepared to show their knowledge in their classes.
In these final days, students have become excited in anticipation, and are not making the best decisions. PLEASE take the time to speak with your son/daughter about making good decisions and finishing strong. Food delivery is a safety risk, walking off campus to the deli is a safety risk, opening and entering in unauthorized doors is a safety risk.
Please check your child's attendance. We have received reports of students roaming the neighboring communities, moving patio furniture, and loitering unattended. We cannot respond to neighborhood complaints; the police respond to neighborhood complaints. Please speak with your child about good decision making as we close the school year.
As I write the last newsletter for the SY24, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the support, check-ins, follow-through and plain LOVE that I received from this community, my community. I am overjoyed to be the principal of Gwynn Park High School and I look forward to starting a new year with a 9th grade academy, a revitalized PBIS program, and a full school math instructional focus.

Cell Phone/Mobile Device Request
While mobile phones continue to be useful tools in education, they have also become a harmful distraction for many teenage learners during the school day. We are asking all parents to help by exploring ways of implementing parental controls on student mobile devices during school hours. We also ask that you have regular conversations with your children about responsible usage of mobile devices and social media. We will be having ongoing conversations with the community about this throughout the year to promote a safe and healthy learning environment for all.
Please note that TEACHERS ARE PERMITTED TO HAVE NO CELL PHONE POLICIES IN THEIR CLASSROOMS, and students must adhere to these classroom rules.
