Message to our Incoming 6th Graders:
Along with our friends and Thompson Middle School, we have decided not to hold a virtual meeting for our Incoming 6th Grade Family Night. The logistics of trying to get everything to present effectively was delaying the process. We made the decision to record our presentations and send them out to our families.
Below are the links to our presentations:
There are two more things we would like you to do:
With your student, take a “Virtual 360 Tour of WMS”- be sure to click all of the boxes to learn more.
If you have questions, please use this Google Form to send them to us. We will then create a “Frequently Asked Questions” and distribute the answers to everyone.
Please note that these presentations are overviews of the year. They do not include specifics of what we might do this fall with Covid-19 and what school may look like. Those decisions happen at a higher level than mine.
I am sorry we are not going to meet face to face at this time, but I look forward to meeting all of you soon!
Thank you-
Tim Loversky, Principal

2020-2021 REGISTRATION:
Returning Student Registration for 2020-2021 has moved to an online format that will open on April 27. In years past, parents completed the necessary paperwork in paper format. This year, all acknowledgments and authorizations are contained in a single electronic, online registration form that will be easily accessible from most electronic devices (computer, Chromebook, and Smartphones).
Beginning April 27, parents can sign into the Returning Student Online Registration form using their Home Access Center (HAC) credentials, select individual students, and complete their registration. The form will be located in the Parents/Community menu of the District website.
Registration fees for elementary and middle school will be available in Pushcoin beginning April 27, and billed to reflect the early bird discount of $10.00 if paid by May 22. High School fees will be available in June. For families who may qualify for a fee waiver, and are not directly certified by the state, a 2020-2021 district fee waiver application will be available on the District 303 website in July, accessible from the Parent/Community menu.

Dear WMS Families
We realize that there are varied financial challenges right now for more of our families. Through the generosity of WMS families, we have a fund for families in need. While we understand there are a variety of community agencies that support, schools often serve as that conduit. Gift cards can include Jewel, Target, Walmart, or other primary food sources.
If you need a gift card for food, please send an email to lucy.johnson@d303.org.
If you would like to donate a gift card or some cash, please send it to Wredling or email Tim Loversky to arrange a time for drop-off:

Please let us know if you have a need- we are a community that cares for each other! And we appreciate all of your generosity and kindness as we face an unprecedented time of need for some of our families.
Thank you-
Tim
SEL LESSONS FROM D303
SEL Lessons:
Thank you for engaging in the weekly Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons. Across the past five weeks, parents and students have engaged in learning around each of the CASEL core competencies connected to SEL which are:
Self-awareness: The ability to accurately recognize one’s emotions and thoughts and their influence on behavior. This includes accurately assessing one’s strengths and limitations and possessing a well-grounded sense of confidence and optimism.
Self-management: The ability to regulate one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations. This includes managing stress, controlling impulses, motivating oneself, and setting and working toward achieving personal and academic goals.
Social awareness: The ability to take the perspective of and empathize with others from diverse backgrounds and cultures, to understand social and ethical norms for behavior, and to recognize family, school, and community resources and supports.
Relationship skills: The ability to establish and maintain healthy and rewarding relationships with diverse individuals and groups. This includes communicating clearly, listening actively, cooperating, resisting inappropriate social pressure, negotiating conflict constructively, and seeking and offering help when needed.
Responsible decision-making: The ability to make constructive and respectful choices about personal behavior and social interactions based on consideration of ethical standards, safety concerns, social norms, the realistic evaluation of consequences of various actions, and the well-being of self and others.
This has been a very different school year. The collaborative relationship between home and school, established and made stronger by this health crisis, has supported students' ability to continue to come together to learn and grow. Remote learning has taken a toll on students and adults. As you enter the summer months, know D303 staff continue to be accessible to you. Do not hesitate to reach out via Let’s Talk or by connecting with your building administration. All previous SEL lessons are available through the D303 Remote Learning for Students. We are hopeful the resources shared will be a continued support to parents/guardians and children across the summer months. If you have any questions on the information provided or are seeking additional support for yourself or child, please contact Patti Palagi, Director Instructional Interventions (patti.palagi@d303.org or (331-228-6457). Additional resources to support you over the summer months are included here:

Dear Families:
I am an award-winning children's author who spoke at Wild Rose last year and was scheduled to speak at Ferson Creek and Lincoln this spring. I am also an Illinois resident and the founder of Idea Tank for Kids, an entrepreneurship competition for Illinois kids age 8-13. (Think Shark Tank for Kids!)
I'm writing with an exciting opportunity for your students. This spring, Idea Tank for Kids is AT HOME. Illinois kids age 8-13 are invited to create a video of their idea and submit their pitch to www.IdeaTankForKids.com.
Grand prize is $1,000! Deadline to apply is May 25, 2020. Finalists will pitch their idea on Zoom to a panel of judges on June 5, 2020.
I have attached a flyer about Idea Tank for Kids in hopes that this is something you want to pass on to your students and educators.
Best regards,
Lowey Bundy Sichol
