Chaparral News!
March 26, 2023
Principal's Corner
Hello Hawk Families:
Melody Makers, YOU were amazing! Thank you to all participating students for sharing your talent! A special thank you to Suzanne Law for bringing music, dance, and art into the lives of our learners. We appreciate your hard work and dedication to the CHES community!
In addition, thank you to all our CAPES volunteers and attendees who made last Friday's Golf Tournament and Reception successful. Special thanks to Casey Teng, the chair of the event, for his dedication and leadership!
This week, we launch our annual APEX Character Program and Fun Run event. The APEX team will be on campus over the next two weeks to teach PBIS-based (Positive Behavior Intervention System) leadership lessons, encourage health and fitness, and support students to get fundraising pledges for the culminating Fun Run Event.
APEX is one of our school's top 3 biggest fundraisers of the year and helps to support programs like Impact teachers, Artists in Residence, Art, Music, Gardening, and so much more. Our informational pep rally with Apex fun run, for students, is on March 27th. We will have our fun run event, which families can attend, on April 5th--see the CAPES announcement below for more details, including how to volunteer at our fun run.
Even if you aren't able to volunteer, consider coming to Chaparral on the day of the event to cheer our students on. We are tremendously grateful for the generosity of our community and we are appreciative of all the dedicated volunteers that help make Chaparral the heart of our district!
Thank you and have a great week!
Dr. Denise Goulart

PUSD 2023-2024 Continuing Student Registration
Online Continuing Student Registration will be open from March 1- March 31, 2022. We must receive a completed digital packet for all returning students. This will allow for the proper placement of your student for the 2023-2024 school year. This annual digital process will allow a family to complete one single “family” packet instead of completing one packet per student. Packets can be completed using any computer, tablet, or smartphone with an internet connection.
Continuing Registration Steps:
- Login and complete the digital registration packet via the online registration portal found here.
- Review and complete any required forms located at the conclusion of the process. A packet is not considered finalized until this step is completed.

Please email your current Principal as soon as possible if you do not plan to return to PUSD for the 2023-2024 school year. Thank you for your attention to this important process.
The PUSD Enrollment Team
Intra-district Transfers
The PUSD transfer window is now open! Transfer requests for students who live in the Poway Unified School District boundaries and would like to attend a school other than their school of residence will be accepted starting today through Friday, March 31, 2023. This includes incoming siblings of current students*. Transfer requests can be made on the Poway Unified School District website here through the online form. The transfer request window closes on March 31 at 5 pm.
*For families who have an incoming transitional kindergarten, kindergarten or new student, please submit a transfer during the open window, even if your child is not yet enrolled. When new student enrollment opens on April 1, 2023, parents will need to enroll their student in their school of residence before the district office will consider the transfer.

APEX is Coming!
Thursday, March 30th is the launch of the APEX Fun Run and Fundraiser. This is one of the BIG THREE annual fundraisers for CAPES and our children have really loved participating each year. All the money raised through APEX pledges goes to paying for CAPES programs at Chaparral such as Music, P.E., Garden, Innovation Lab, and Impact. Your child will come home with an APEX pledge kit including all the information about the APEX program and associated fundraising on Thursday, March 30th.
The main running event for APEX will occur on Wednesday, April 5th, and volunteers are needed to mark laps while the children run. To organize volunteers, we have set up a sign-up sheet which can be accessed here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0f45aba629abfd0-apex#/. Note that individuals do not need to meet the regular volunteer requirements to help with this event since Chaparral staff will be present at all times. Please review the time slots and consider helping with this important event. Thank you!

Parking Lot Safety and Logistics--Permit needed
Please be aware that our school parking lot is reserved for staff and a parking permit is needed. Parents parking in the staff lot for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up is negatively affecting our campus. Our staff exceeds the number of parking spots available and therefore, parking in the lot is causing additional challenges. In addition, there are several safety concerns as parents and children are walking through the lot as traffic is moving. Please use crosswalks and use the drive-thru lane, as intended. If you must park, please park off site and follow traffic laws.
Traffic violations and unsafe driving still remain the number one complaint amongst our school community. Please view our following videos that may help set expectations of drop-off and pick-up procedures.
