CBSD Thanks Volunteer Emergency Responders with Tax Rebate
If you are a volunteer with a local fire company or nonprofit emergency medical service agency, CBSD wants to thank you for your service by helping reduce your property taxes as a result of a newly enacted Volunteer Service Tax Credit Program passed by the School Board in Sept. 2024. To qualify for the tax credit, volunteers must be active members of an eligible fire or emergency medical services agency and earn points based on their service. Learn more
Info on Flexible Instructional Days, Expectations for Families and Students
A Flexible Instructional Day (FID) is designed for situations where school buildings need to close due to weather or other emergencies, but learning can still continue at home. Utilizing a FID allows us to avoid extending the school year or disrupting the instructional calendar as well as provides an opportunity for students to practice their skills and become more independent learners. Elementary and secondary students and families have certain expectations should a FID be necessary. Complete information, including an explanatory video with a translatable script, can be accessed on our FID webpage.

AP Exam Fall/Full Year Registration
If your child is currently taking an Advanced Placement class, please take time to read the following message:
There is one week remaining to register and pay for fall and full year AP exams. On Tuesday, September 10th, teachers will help students “digitally activate” (join) their classes in their AP accounts. This will allow students to access resources from College Board. Students will then have until October 30th to decide if they are taking the AP exam in May. If they choose to take the exam, they must then register and make payment via My Payments Plus by October 30th. Information regarding My Payments Plus is below and will also be shared with your child in their AP class.
Registration/Deadline: To register for your AP Exams, please visit www.mypaymentsplus.com from Tuesday, September 10th, through Wednesday, October 30, 2024. All registrations for 1st semester and full year AP courses must be completed by Wednesday, October 30th. Through this site, you will be able to view all available exams and make AP exam payments for all students in the same household in one transaction. It’s important to note that MPP and AP Registration and Ordering do not correlate i.e. if you make payment on MPP, it does not automatically update your exam status to “Yes” on AP Registration and ordering.
· If you do not already have a My Payments Plus account, follow the on-screen instructions to create one.
· If you already have a My Payments Plus account, be sure to “Add” each student who will be taking an AP exam.
· Please note that exams must be taken on the College Board scheduled day.
· When registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation number. Please record and save your confirmation number.
Payment/Additional Fees: The cost is $104 per exam, which includes the registration fee. **PLEASE NOTE the following additional fees that will be applied for the October 30th deadline for 1st semester and full year classes:
*Cancellation Fee: $40.00
*Late Registration Fee: $40.00
Withdrawing from an exam: If you are no longer able to take an exam for which you have already registered, an email or letter from a parent/guardian to Ms. Lillo, our AP Coordinator, in Student Services (rlillo@cbsd.org) is required at least 48 hours prior to the exam. Your maximum refund will be $59 per exam.
Financial Aid: Students who qualify for the free/reduced lunch program are eligible for a reduced exam fee. The adjusted fee will be reflected in your My Payments Plus account when you log in.
Technical support: If you experience technical issues with your account, or forget your login or password, please contact My Payments Plus, Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM at (877) 237-0946.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Lillo at rlillo@cbsd.org.

Laptop Breakage Information
Laptop Breakage
We have seen a rise in the amount of screen breaks for student laptops. Our policy covers for 2 broken screens per device. If your child’s laptop screen breaks 3 times, we will be required to send you an invoice for the repair and labor. The current cost for this is $150. Please remind your child to care for their laptops. Some simple steps to assist are:
- Use two hands when holding or moving the device.
- Use clean hands while using the laptop or iPad.
- Use only the provided digital pen or finger on the screen.
- Use only the power adapter that came with the device.
- Use a microfiber cloth to clean the screen.
- Keep device stored in the provided case. This includes traveling through the hallways, on buses, or anytime the device is not being utilized.
- Make sure nothing is on the keyboard, close the lid, and remove all cables if any are plugged into the laptop. Place laptop in your bag carefully.
- Be careful when placing your case on the floor. Keep the device off the floor so screens do not get stepped on by others.
Parents of Student Drivers
Our goal each day is make sure that all students, faculty, buses, and drivers exit our school campus safely. To ensure that safety, we are requesting that you please reinforce safe driving habits with your student driver. There have been several vehicle accidents that may have been prevented through safer driving practices.
- Drivers should maintain a speed of 15 MPH or less while driving on MacFarlane and in the school zone area.
- Drivers are to stop for pedestrians entering the crossing areas.
- Drivers are not to change lanes on MacFarlane
- Drivers should not be using electronic devices while driving.
- Drivers/Students should not be yelling from one vehicle to the next or getting out of one vehicle to get in another.
- Please try to limit the number of passengers in the car with your student. This will assist in being more attentive while driving.
Thank you for your assistance !
