Important back-to-school information for 2024-25
Dear District 30 Families,
We are overjoyed to welcome your children back into our classrooms on August 21!
This school year will be an important one, as it will be guided by our new Strategic Plan that was crafted with contributions and input from our entire District 30 community. Our Board of Education approved this plan last spring, and our teachers and staff are now working to ensure that all learning and initiatives are aligned with its goals – supporting our mission to create an inclusive community that inspires learning, fosters resilience and cares deeply for every child.
Everything we will do this year and beyond will work to honor childhood and foster intellectual, physical and social-emotional growth for our students. I ask all parents to explore our Strategic Plan, especially the Student, Adult and School System Portraits. These outline the characteristics we are working to embody in our students; the traits we encourage in our teachers, staff and parents alike; and the qualities you can expect from District 30.
New faces and roles: This year, we are also proud to welcome some new faces in key roles! Mrs. Katie Compagno is taking the lead as the new Willowbrook School Principal, while Ms. Alison Keller will serve as the Wescott School Assistant Principal. In our District Offices, Dr. Scott Carlson now serves as our Director of Human Resources, working to ensure best practices and to attract top teaching talent.
New well-being initiatives: Additionally, in line with the goals of our Strategic Plan, we have two important new initiatives that will care for the social-emotional needs of our learners. New social workers have been added to the staff at all three District 30 schools, while we are also launching a school-home partnership our district's ongoing efforts with RULER, a social-emotional learning program. This year, I ask parents and guardians to watch your weekly school e-newsletters to learn how you can use RULER with your child(ren) at home to better support their emotions.
Join us Sept. 25: Finally, I invite all parents and everyone within District 30 boundaries (even if they don't have children in our schools) to participate in our fall Conversations with the Community, happening at 12 or 6 p.m. on September 25 in our district offices. Please tell your neighbors!
Pick the time that's best for you to meet with me and a member of our Board of Education for a brief presentation on key District 30 matters, with a focus on welcoming your questions and ideas. Registration is not required, but you may RSVP to either time slot to help us plan to accommodate attendance. I look forward to your questions and feedback about what matters to you in our schools.
Thank you for your partnership! I wish you and our students a healthy and happy school year!
Dr. Emily K. Tammaru
Superintendent of Schools
