Food Service News:
On Friday, August 16, the district will activate Food Service alerts, which will notify when a student's account balance goes below zero dollars. As a parent/guardian, you must opt-in to receive this notification in Skyward Family Access. If you are interested in receiving this notification, please take a look at the attached document with directions on how to ensure you are opted in. The attached document also shows the steps on how to set a purchase limit on your student's food service account. Setting up notifications and purchasing limits works best on a laptop or desktop computer rather than through the app on a mobile device. Please reach out to the office if you need any assistance setting up notifications or purchase limits.
Core Classroom Updates
English Language Arts
Welcome to ELA 7. Our ELA teaching team is made up of 2 veteran teachers with combined experience of over 50 years. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to spend this year with your child.
This week has been spent getting to know one another in our classes. The students are becoming more familiar with our general operating procedures as well. Also, we took the STAR Assessment of skills to give some insight to the students’ strength and challenge areas.
Next week, we will have our first trip to the Patton Library Media Center (LMC), and the students will have the opportunity to check out books. In addition, we will distribute the textbook, and the students will spend some time familiarizing themselves with the book.

I will post a link to my monthly newsletters in skyward. There you will find information about early dismissals and No School Days listed.

Math
It's been a great first week of school! In 7th grade math, we did several get-to-know-you activities, created classroom norms for the school year, reviewed our one class rule (please ask your child what it is), and discussed classroom procedures. The kids took their first STAR math test of the year on Friday. We'll begin learning about operations with integers (adding and subtracting positive and negative whole numbers) on Monday. I hope to meet you at the 23 August parent-teacher conference. Have a great weekend!

Drama 7
Welcome to Drama 7. I’m looking forward to a great semester with your child. This semester we will focus on various public speaking and acting activities. The semester “final” is an evening performance of small ensembles and possibly reader’s theater. The date for the show is December 17th. More information will be sent out closer to the show date.
We hit the ground running this week. The students have been on stage to answer the roll question each day. We also participated in 2 get acquainted activities with facts provided by the students.
Beginning Tuesday, each student will give a short presentation of a Me Box. This presentation is a container with 5 items that help the speaker tell the audience about himself/herself. After that, we will have lessons that will assist students as we prepare our reader’s theater scripts.

Spanish
7th Grade Spanish is off to a great start! Students have just begun with Señor Wooly, our main curriculum. Our first speaking quiz will be on Thursday. Dichos are sayings of the wise which are also called proverbs. Our first DICHO is <<El hijo de la gata ratones mata.>> It means "The son of a mama cat kills mice." A looser translation would be "Like father , like son" or "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.""
