Wildcat Weekly 4/21-4/25

Hi Wildcats! 🐾
Hi Wildcats!
We hope you had a restful and enjoyable spring break! We are so excited to see our Wildcats back at school tomorrow!

Free Books for Wildcats!
Our Wildcats will come back from Spring Break to an amazing surprise! On Monday, April 21, each student will have the opportunity to visit a giant book giveaway event and choose THREE brand new books to keep!
This exciting event is being organized for us by San Diego Oasis and made possible thanks to a generous grant from ASML San Diego. Among other services, Oasis partners retirees with students to tutor onsite and work with individual Wildcats on reading and writing skills. We are so thankful for our wonderful Oasis volunteers and thrilled about the event they are planning!
Students will have a wide variety of popular fiction and non-fiction books to choose from. Be sure to ask your Wildcat about their new books after school on Monday!
April is School Library Month!
"School Library Month" is the American Library Association's annual celebration of school libraries. It's a time we recognize the essential role that strong school libraries play in transforming learning. School libraries provide a welcoming space where students can explore new ideas, develop literacy skills, and foster a lifelong love of reading. We are so thankful for our own beautiful school library here at Pomerado!
Did you know that in PUSD, school libraries do not receive district funds to purchase new books? All of our book-buying dollars come from our bi-annual Book Fairs and occasionally, grants from the community. So while our wish list is ever growing, our new book purchases are often limited. If you would like to support our Pomerado school library this month, or anytime, please check out our Amazon wish list! We update the list quite frequently with titles we'd love to add to our collection to be enjoyed by our Wildcats and we appreciate donations! Please click here to access the list: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2M4DN8QBFZPVZ?ref_=wl_share
We know weekly class library visits are something many of our Wildcats look forward to! Thank you for supporting our school library and your child's reading adventures!
Volunteer Information
With the end of year approaching, many of our grades will be attending Field Trips.
There are two types of volunteers:- Level 1 – Level I volunteers are allowed to work with students under the supervision of staff, e.g. classroom volunteers. Level I volunteers are not allowed to be left alone with students.
- Level 2 – For volunteers who will work in isolation with students, e.g., Safety Patrol Coordinator, Garden Club, Field Trip Chaperones. Level II volunteers will have significant unsupervised contact with students.
If you would like to be a field trip chaperone, you need to be cleared as a Level 2 volunteer. The first step is Level I below.
Steps to be a Level I Volunteer:
- Complete the following forms
- Level I Application (Megan’s Law)
- Volunteer Code of Conduct
- Volunteer Code of Confidentiality
- Proof of identification/driver’s license [proof of identification/driver’s license to be shown at school site]
- TB Clearance: Applicants will turn in completed forms plus proof of a TB clearance to the school site where they plan to volunteer. TB Testing requirements can be found in the section below titled “TB Testing”. TB tests must be kept current to continue volunteering.
