100th Day of School
Celebrating Black History Month
Throughout February, Heights elementary students dove into the inspiring stories and achievements of African Americans with a Black History Month Scavenger Game—a fun, interactive challenge that turned learning into an adventure!
E-PLEDGE CLOSING CEREMONIES
Harbor Hill and East Hills elementary schools hosted E-Pledge closing ceremonies in mid-February. It was the culmination of a project noticing and noting acts of kindness, big and small, which was initiated by Gary and Lynne Falkowitz in 2023 in honor of their son Ethan. Students with handmade hearts took turns reading off key words of kindness during a schoolwide gathering.

East Hills Students Make a Splash with Hydropower
Fourth-grade STEAM students kicked-off a lesson on renewable and nonrenewable energy with a splash. They dove into hydropower, learning how flowing water creates energy, and then put their knowledge to the test by building their very own paper plate water wheels. It was a whirlwind of creativity, science, and fun!

In the late afternoon, the Roslyn High School Asian Cultural Exchange Club (ACE) hosted a lively Lunar New Year Festival, bringing the community together with authentic food, artistic displays, and captivating performances.

Roslyn Middle School Launches Lunchtime Career Day Program
Roslyn Middle School has launched an exciting new initiative to broaden students' exposure to different career paths. The Lunchtime Career Day program aims to connect students with professionals from various fields, offering real-world insights and inspiration during their lunch periods. By hearing directly from experts in industries such as healthcare, technology, business, the arts, and first responders, students will gain valuable perspectives on potential career opportunities. In February, one featured speaker was Roslyn Board of Education and community member Robert Koonin, a real estate and sports attorney who has worked closely with professional athletes, sports teams, and leagues. The school hopes programs like these will empower students with the knowledge and motivation to explore their future aspirations.

In partnership with the PFA, Roslyn Middle School hosted a Scholastic Book Fair where students engaged in a variety of reading activities. The fair was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate literacy and encourage a love for reading among students.

2025 RHS National Honor Society Induction
One hundred and ninety-one Roslyn High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society on Monday, February 10, 2025. The ceremony took place in the high school auditorium.
Six RHS Students Named Finalists in 2025 National Merit Scholarship Awards
Six Roslyn High School students have been named Finalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship awards competition—Ethan Lee, Anika Tolat, Benjamin Quadri, Ethan Berkowitz, Sarah Fernbach, and Eliana Li. All finalists will be considered for National Merit Scholarships in 2025.
Hilltop Beacon Wins Big at Quill Awards
Roslyn High School’s newspaper, The Hilltop Beacon, won multiple awards at the 2025 Quill Awards at Adelphi University's Press Day on February 14, 2025. The Hilltop Beacon took home Second Place for Best Overall Newspaper. Emilee Youn won First Place for Most Outstanding Reporter; Ben Davidson was honored with a First Place title for Best Opinion; Andrew Wharton took home Third Place for Best Sports Story.
RHS Takes 3rd Place in Long Island High School Science Bowl
On Friday, January 31, 2025, Roslyn High School’s Science Bowl Team placed third in the Long Island region of the National Science Bowl. Captained by junior Matthew Lin, the team includes senior Ethan Lee and juniors Maxwell Lippman, Serin Jo, and Chuhao (Jimmy) Gong.
A Century of Wisdom: Roslyn ASL Students Welcome Special Guest
On Monday, February 10, 2025, Roslyn High School American Sign Language (ASL) students in Ms. Lauren Murphy’s class were treated to a visit by Martha Reich, a remarkable 100-year-old woman who is Deaf. Ms. Reich is the great-grandmother of Roslyn student Sydney Sheena, who helped moderate the visit. Using sign language to communicate, and with some assistance from interpreter Lisa Denison, Ms. Reich responded to students, who used ASL to ask their questions.
RHS Hosts P.S. I Love You Day to Spread Kindness and Hope
On Valentine’s Day, Roslyn High School went purple instead of red to participate in P.S. I Love You Day, a national movement dedicated to ending the stigma surrounding mental health and fostering a community of kindness and support. P.S. I Love You Day was founded in 2011 by two students from West Islip High School who lost their father to suicide. Observed annually on the second Friday of February, the initiative encourages conversations about mental health and reminds individuals that they are never alone. This year’s theme, “A brighter tomorrow begins today,” reinforces the power of small acts of kindness in creating a more supportive world.
2025 LI Junior Science and Humanities Symposium
Five Roslyn High School students — seniors Riley Lenson and Justin Margulies, and juniors Noa Karp, Hua Lin and Matthew Lin, were invited to present their research at the semifinal round of the annual Long Island Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS), held at York College in Jamaica Queens on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
Bulldogs Give Back in a Big Way
The Roslyn High School Parent Faculty Association (PFA) hosted a very successful Bulldog Pantry Drive in February, collecting an extraordinary amount of food, personal care items, and nearly $1,200 in donations. These funds will directly assist individuals and families in need, strengthening community support.

Roslyn Track and Field Athlete Named News 12 Scholar Athlete of the Week
Roslyn High School track and field athlete Zach Davidson was selected by News 12 Long Island to be their Scholar Athlete of the Week. The honor comes with a check for $1,000. Zach was interviewed at the high school by reporter Kevin Maher for a segment that aired on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Zach finished third in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault championships in 2024, clearing 14-9 in March and 15 feet even in June. He currently holds the Nassau County Section VIII and Roslyn High School pole vault record with a height of 15' 3". He also holds the Roslyn HS record in the indoor triple jump.
