"The USCCB’s new initiative, under the Committee of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, is organized to help anyone—clergy, catechists, students, parents, Catholics, or non-Catholics—think more clearly about the whole confusing set of principles regarding sexuality, marriage, family, and the human person. On the site, you can navigate topics, articles, resources, policy and advocacy, and sign-up for a weekly newsletter to your inbox. " Click on the description below to take you to the website.

CATHOLIC SCOUTING
Local Scouts Earn Religious Emblems
As you may know, the Office of Evangelization & Catechesis has hosted an annual diocesan Catholic Scouting recognition ceremony in the past. More recently, the Office has shifted from recognizing scouts at a diocesan ceremony to awarding the emblem at the end of a weekend Mass at the scout’s parish. Families have really appreciated the personal attention and it is a wonderful way to educate the greater parish community about Catholic Scouting. Below are the names of scouts who have earned emblems and been recognized over the last several months. Congratulations!
- John Schenker, Justin Colabufo, Caleb Esposito, Zachary Thiers, Antonette Volpe, Margaret Chamberlain, Marshall Harrison, Noah Quinto, Logan Schroeder, Anthony Morelle Jr., and Julietta Crowe
If there is interest in having a religious emblem presented at the end of a weekend Mass at the scout’s parish, please contact Mark here.
Ad Altare Dei Class Forming in Fall 2024
An Ad Altare Dei course is being organized to start in fall 2024! This is for all youth in BSA (including troops, venturing and sea scouts). Ideally, this is for youth ages 13-14, but any youth ages 11-17 who have completed 6th grade can work on this Religious Emblem. If youth are interested in attending or you are an adult who would like to help, please contact Colleen Trevisani here or at 585-672-5568.

OCIA Update
The US Bishops have officially gotten word that the OCIA has been approved by Rome. We expect that they will set a timeline for implementation in the near future. Watch for more updates.
From the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions:
OCIA TRANSLATIONS APPROVED
The Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments has confirmed the revised translations of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults and the Ritual de la Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos. The decrees of confirmation were issued on Ash Wednesday, February 14 and were received by the USCCB shortly thereafter.
The final texts have been received and will undergo the customary review by the Secretariat for Divine Worship before an implementation schedule is recommended to the USCCB President. Those dates will be contained in an official Decree of Publication.
STRUCTURE
The revised OCIA/RICA retains the identical arrangement and numbering as the current USA editions. One notable change is the numbering of the chapters -- Part I (for the catechumenate) is marked as Chapter I, while the chapters in Part II (for Particular Circumstances), is now numbered as chapters 2-6 (formerly nos. 1-5). The Appendices remain . Appendix I contains the combined rites and Appendix II contains the Acclamations, Hymns, and Chants. The National Statutes (formerly in a third appendix) will now be moved to the front matter of the text, along with the Introductions, decrees and other legislation.
As noted earlier, terminology has been refined to better clarify titles, e.g., “inquirer,” “catechumen,” “elect,” and “candidate.” New sample introductions are provided for use by the celebrant in the combined rites, making clear the distinctions between groups. The combined rites for Easter Vigil also now include texts for the baptism of an infant (adapted from the Order of Baptism of Children) since the Missal and other liturgical texts provides for this possibility.
FDLC FORMATION FOR THE OCIA
For over fifty-five years, it has been the mission of the FDLC to provide formation on new liturgical texts. In the coming weeks/months, the FDLC will offer a timeline of its formation efforts:
a) a “town hall meeting” over Zoom, for members only. This will allow us to answer your most immediate questions.
b) The diocesan workshop kits are in preparation and will be adjusted with the new texts.
c) In-person workshops may be scheduled later at the invitation of diocesan offices.
d) Webinars will be offered, as required, especially regarding the revised National Statutes.
WHAT'S NEW?
