“THE FUTURE BELONGS TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN THE BEAUTY OF THEIR DREAMS.”

Message From Superintendent Mueller
Good Afternoon,
December is one of the busiest months around the district with many holiday events and celebrations. Even with all the excitement, our dedicated educators are working hard to keep the focus on learning!
In case you missed it, this week our talented middle and elementary school choir students from CMS, Silver Strand, and Village performed at the Del’s annual Holiday Festival, and the CHS freshman PE Dance class put on a beautiful ballet performance at the CHS Performing Arts Center. Tonight many of our students will participate in the holiday parade with their sports teams and clubs. And tomorrow is the 54th annual Artisans Alley which, in addition to being a great community tradition for shopping and meeting up with friends and neighbors, is the largest fundraiser of the year for our Band & Choir Boosters. We hope to see many of you around town at the numerous holiday events!
Our district is embarking on an effort to update our Facilities Master Plan. Part of the process is to gather feedback about the perceived conditions of each district site via a short (5-10 minute) anonymous online survey. Please share your thoughts with us by completing the CUSD Facilities Master Planning Survey.
The School Board Military Families Committee has developed a short survey to obtain feedback from military families in CUSD. This survey is for current CUSD families who have at least one parent/adult in the home serving in the military. Your feedback will allow the committee to focus on issues that are important to this demographic. CUSD Military Family Committee survey.
We know that many of our students ride e-bikes to and from school. Please make sure you and your children are aware of new laws regarding use of these motorized devices in the City of Coronado that will go into effect on January 3, 2025. For specific information please see the graphic below or the city’s webpage which includes information about the new rules HERE.
Next week the governing board will hold its annual organizational meeting on Friday, December 13th at 4pm. The agenda will be published 72 hours in advance and can be found on the CUSD website HERE.

Caught Being Awesome!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- CUSD Student: During Thanksgiving break, Carter (CUSD student) was helping the CHS boys basketball team fundraiser. He was energetic and confident. When he saw his non verbal classmate walking by he said hello and gave him knuckles. Carter had a short conversation with the mother and told her he had been his classmate for a few grades now. He was inclusive and kind without being asked. It was really nice to see a young boy be so kind, I think it surprised the mother of the non verbal child as well.
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families With CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2024-2025 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $30 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
If you do not purchase the Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student’s device, the following fees will apply should damage occur:
Damage Type and Replacement Cost Plus Tax
Chromebook - Full Replacement $400
Damaged Keyboard $80
Damaged Screen $80
Damaged Motherboard $160
Damaged LCD Bezel $40
Damaged Camera $40
Lost/Damaged Charger* $22
Lost Case* $19
*Accessories are not covered by the Mobile Device Protection Plan.
