Student Advisory Council
Monday May 20- Application Deadline
2024-2025 high school students - Are you interested in being part of a Student Advisory Council to the School Board?
Calling all Snohomish School District high school students! Are you interested in serving as a representative on the Student Advisory Council for the School Board? We have Student Advisory Council representative positions (students in grades 10 through 12) open for the 2024-2025 school year and invite you to submit your application by Monday, May 20, 2024. Students selected to the Student Advisory Council will receive community service hours for their involvement.
Background
We want to work to ensure that student voice is heard at all levels, including the Board of Directors in our district. As a public school district, our organization exists to educate and serve all students in our community and therefore, students’ needs, interests, ideas and opinions are important in our schools.
This Student Advisory Council will regularly meet to discuss School Board topics and important topics at each of the schools. This position is for a multi-school year commitment. Student Representatives are expected to attend meetings which include: School Board, Advisory Council, and campus meetings to connect with fellow students.

Application Process
- All interested students will complete an online application.
- A district administrative team will screen applications and select representatives to interview for the Student Advisory Council for the 2024-2025 school year.
- The first Student Advisory Council meeting of the 2024-2025 school year will be in September 2024.
- The student advisory members’ term for the 2024-2025 school year will begin in September.
Criteria for serving as a Student Advisory Council representative
- Student advisory representatives must be enrolled in the Snohomish School District and remain so throughout the length of their term.
- Student advisory representatives should be able to effectively communicate and represent the interests of all Snohomish School District students, which includes those who may differ from their own.
- Student advisory representatives must commit to participating in meetings to hear and share student voice to include: one School Board meeting per month, meetings with Student Advisory Council, meetings with principal and student groups on campus (some exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances).
- School Board meetings are typically held on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. At the first School Board meeting each month (second Wednesday) representatives will meet with the Board of Directors at the 5:30 p.m. study session.
Student Advisory Council expectations
- Be punctual.
- Under the guidance of Wil Johnson, district liaison to the group, they will learn and understand the governance process.
- Be prepared for meetings by reviewing meeting agenda items and information prior to meetings.
- Contribute to discussions by providing student insight and perspectives.
- Regularly report back to the student body regarding the work of the district and School Board.
- Help with the recruitment of a new Student Advisory Council representatives at the end of the school year.

PTO has been busy planning events, including a prom and yearbook and with funds earned we were also able to provide meals for our amazing staff for conference week!

Food 2 Go Program: Are you in need of groceries? AIM High School partners with the Snohomish Community Food Bank and you may qualify for access to weekly groceries which are delivered to AIM for you to pick up.
Lion's Club Vision Assistance: Support is available for students who are in need of glasses or an eye exam.
Transportation: Students who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence may qualify for transportation, school supplies and other services. Inquire for more information.

Study hall class of the week
This year in study hall we are recognizing the class of the week.
To be considered, students in the study hall class need to be:
- Working
- Quiet and respectful of their classmates.
- Students must also not be on their cell phones.
Study Hall Class of the Week: Wednesday AM-Second hour
Students are acknowledged by having their study hall class session on the Class of the Week sign and they receive a treat.
Golden Apple employee recognition program
Nominate a district staff member for a Golden Apple! Is there a district employee who you would like the district to recognize for helping our students thrive? We are excited to share the launch of Golden Apple - an employee recognition program that will recognize two staff members quarterly for their student-centered service to students, staff, families and/or community. Staff members selected for this quarterly honor will be recognized for helping “create an educational community that ignites a passion for learning where every student is known and empowered.”
