Waccamaw High School Marching Warriors competed in the Carolina Classic Marching Band Competition this past weekend. Congratulations to our 3 Waccamaw Middle School performers who are members of the WHS Marching Band: Henry Altman, Brice Ellis, and Lyla Thorn, on their very first competition! The Marching Band competed in Class 2A along with Georgetown High School, York Preparatory Academy, and Myrtle Beach High School and took home 1st Place, along with the additional awards below. Way to go Warriors!

Get ready to join your student on a reading adventure with Beanstack, a platform designed to make reading fun!

Beanstack uses competition, recognition, and proven gamification principles to motivate students to read and develop a life-long love of reading. Whether your student chooses fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, or articles online, any and all reading counts in Beanstack! By tracking their daily reading, your student will begin to build healthy reading habits and become a more confident reader.

When students log their reading via Beanstack’s web or mobile app, they:

● Earn digital badges as they reach milestones

● Compete on leaderboards and build streaks for reading every day

● Track everything they read on their virtual bookshelf

● Receive rewards and incentives for completing reading challenges

All GCSD schools are participating in this reading platform. For now we are starting with student challenges in individuals schools. Grade level and Warrior Time competitions will be coming soon to WMS, and as the year progresses, WMS will compete with other schools in our district.

Our school's first challenge, "Fall Into Reading," will end on October 22nd. Each student needs to read and log 300 minutes by that date in order to complete the challenge, earn badges, rewards, and incentives. The best part is that students can log over the Fall Break either on their Chromebook or on the Beanstack app!

We're excited to begin this reading adventure and appreciate your support in helping us create a school wide reading culture! See the video below for more information.

GCSD's Fall Break is all next week, October 7th - 11th. However, Monday the 7th is an eLearning day to makeup for the weather day on September 16th. Please make sure that students complete and submit their assignments in Google Classroom. Enjoy your break!

Wear Orange for Unity Day in support of National Bullying Prevention Month!

Warriors: We need your help! We are participating in our annual World’s Finest Chocolate Fundraiser this October – and we need your sales expertise! The proceeds from this fundraiser support our schoolwide activities and student incentive programs. This year we are selling $2 Bars – Each Box includes 30 bars. Each box you sell enters you into a raffle for our Grand Prize Gift Card Raffle AND the winner of our sales competition will be awarded $100. If you sell just one box of WFC Chocolate – you will be invited to our Warriors Celebration on November 15th, where we will have popcorn, treats and prizes! You may turn in your signed permission slips or completed sales envelopes to Mr. Meyer each morning in the Cafeteria. We’ve also hidden 15 Golden Tickets in random boxes – which can be redeemed by the seller for prizes or a ONE POUND bar of chocolate! Students are encouraged to have supervision while selling WFC and no sales may take place on campus during school hours. Any questions – please contact Mr. Meyer.

The Department of Public Health (DPH) is coming to WMS on Monday 10/28/24 to administer flu vaccines to students. This year parents will complete the consent form online only. We will not distribute any paper consent forms. However, if a parent requests a paper consent form, please contact the school nurse. The online consent form is open and available now for parents to complete.

The last day for parents to complete the online form is Monday, October 21, 2024. Please see attached instructions below.
