Class of 2021 Graduation Announced: Thursday, June 10th, 2021 12:00 at the Raleigh Convention Center.

As we prepare for upcoming events and educational opportunities for our HSA students in 2020-2021, we need to do some fundraising. Since we do not receive funding from the county for events like off-site educational opportunities and the Red Cord Banquet to honor seniors, we depend on friends like you to help the Academy with your donations. We have heard from parents that many prefer to donate money directly vs. purchasing items that might incur additional costs such as shipping or taxes. There are two advantages to that - #1 Donating by clicking a button is quick and easy, and #2 All money goes directly to the Academy. Checks are also welcome and should be made out to AD Health Alliance and sent to ADHS at 1420 Athens Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606. And, of course, any amount donated is tax-deductible.

Each year we hold Poetry Out Loud! This year the national competition is allowing for video entries. Our video submissions will be due by 2 pm EST on January 7th. We'll also be able to send 4 winners to the district competition! Please share this amazing opportunity with students. If students make it to the national competition, they can win up to $20,000!

The 2021 AgDiscovery program is currently accepting applications through March 25, 2021!

AgDiscovery is a national summer outreach program designed to introduce 7-12 grade students to the exciting world of agricultural sciences! The APHIS Office of Civil Rights, Diversity, and Inclusion provides administrative leadership over AgDiscovery nationwide.

The program is a unique opportunity for students to gain a first-hand view of many fascinating career paths available in the agricultural sciences field, including plant and animal health and sciences, wildlife management, biotechnology, environmental science, forestry, entomology, food safety and food production, as well as managing the business aspects of agriculture. AgDiscovery challenges students to consider the importance of American agriculture, and the role USDA plays in this critical mission. The program educates students about career opportunities within USDA, by stimulating and promoting advanced interest in, and knowledge of agriculturally-related fields of study. The program exposes students to the interconnections of agriculture in both rural and urban communities, and the diversity of career opportunities offered in the field of agricultural sciences. Students encounter USDA staff in action, while visiting a variety of USDA facilities, research centers, and farming environments. USDA employees conduct a variety of workshops, classes, and hands-on activities for the students, allowing them to practice innovative and advanced agricultural technologies, and to interact and network with agricultural professionals. AgDiscovery students also take part in several career development activities organized by APHIS and learn about the training required for various career paths, affording them a realistic view of practical experiences in the field. Additionally, AgDiscovery students gain valuable information and tools to become competitive college applicants. There are 21 universities hosting AgDiscovery in 2021. My name is Katherine Mansfield, and I am a graduate student at UNC Chapel-Hill in the Masters in Speech-Language Pathology Program. I am a part of an organization within the School of Medicine called the Allied Health Ambassadors, which is interested in putting together several outreach events with your students at Athens Drive High School in the HSCA. We would love to provide them with information on the various allied health science professions offered as programs at our university. These include the following:

• Clinical Rehab and Mental Health Counseling

• Physician Assistant

• Radiologic Science

• Clinical Laboratory Science

We are currently planning several informational sessions with Q&A opportunities via Zoom, occurring on the first Monday evening of every month beginning December 7th, 2020. These events are open to any of your students who are interested in learning more about the allied health professions. We will begin with a short presentation to introduce the various professions and wrap-up with a Q&A session for the students to ask whatever questions they may have about allied health, what they can do now to get on track for these programs, college in general, etc.

Applications are now being accepted for the KPMG Future Leaders Program – Class of 2021! I am reaching out to you today because I know you work with inspiring girls who could benefit from this opportunity. Our goal is for the application to reach as many qualified young women as possible, and we cannot do it without your help.

Again this year, the KPMG Future Leaders Program will award 22 deserving female high school seniors:

1. A scholarship of $10,000 per year for 4 years of college
2. A pairing with an executive woman mentor for one-year
3. A leadership development retreat and ongoing KPMG support

Since the program’s inception in 2016, $2.68M in scholarships has been awarded to 100 KPMG Future Leaders. We are proud of the impact this program is having and look forward to expanding our reach in 2021.

New Students interested in applying to the CCP Program for the Spring/Summer semesters should visit ccp.waketech.edu and click on the Enrolling in CCP tab for an outline of the admissions process. Students who have attended or completed the information session will receive the online CCP Application link within the email address they provided during the session. Students should check all folders within their email inbox.


Graduating Students who are still interested in enrolling in CCP Summer courses, must submit and updated EV Form (previously mentioned). Graduating Students who plan to attend Wake Tech as a traditional student should visit the CCP Students Graduating High School tab on the CCP webpage. Juniors and Seniors apply for an eight-week paid internship this summer and work with a non-profit in Wake County.

I’m excited to share that the application for the 2021 Bank of America Student Leader program is open until January 29, 2021. We would love to have current high school juniors or seniors apply.

Below are a few criteria that would help an applicant standout amongst all the applications we receive.

• Diversity of thought and perspective
• We value depth of service over quantity
• Emphasis on overcoming challenges or students who wouldn't normally get this type of opportunity

This eight-week PAID internship will expose students to key leaders in the Triangle community as well as national speakers. Each Student Leader will have a local Bank of America employee as a mentor. The students will also interact with over 300 Student Leaders from across the country and learn the importance of collaboration between the private, public and government sector.

This will be the 6th year of the Student Leader program in the Triangle Market and we are excited to say that our first class has officially graduated from college!! We are looking forward to learning about the next generation of leaders.

The Young Innovators Program is an eight-week paid summer internship offered through the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the Eshelman Institute for Innovation. The program offers high school students the opportunity to participate in an immersive experience designed to engage students in cutting edge and innovative research in STEM as it relates to the pharmaceutical sciences.

Throughout the program, interns work directly with a faculty preceptor, laboratory mentor, and clinical mentor to gain hands-on research experience and pursue a mentored research project. Interns spend approximately 32 hours per week in a research lab or center, and also participate in various team building, career development, and interdisciplinary activities outside the laboratory environment. Applicants must be currently enrolled in 9th,10th, 11th or 12th grade, and must demonstrate a strong interest in STEM as it relates to the practice of pharmacy and the advancement of pharmaceutical science research.

The Summer Internship Program at the NIEHS is part of the National Institutes of Health Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research (NIH SIP) . The NIEHS is located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina . Scientists at the NIEHS are committed to sharing with students and educators the intensity, excitement, sense of discipline, and tremendous satisfaction that careers in science can impart to those who pursue them.

The Summer Internship Program provides internships to outstanding high school, undergraduate, and graduate students interested in pursuing careers in the biomedical/biological sciences to work on a research project that entails exposure to the latest biochemical, molecular, and analytical techniques in a given field. Participants are selected by scientific mentors from the NIEHS Division of Intramural Research.
