Pastor Rich's Weekly Devotional
No Secrets
Beginning its life as a black-and-white show on CBS in 1952 and continuing for several decades, I’ve Got a Secret was a popular television show. Each week, celebrity panelists would be tasked with the job of guessing the contestant’s secret: something that is amazing, embarrassing, or humorous about that person.
Some contestants had a notable occupation, hobby, achievement, or skill. Other contestants owned odd objects, or something unique happened to them. Secrets were intended to be unusual. Examples of secrets were the following: Pete Best’s secret – “I was one of the original Beatles”; Harlan Sanders’ secret – “I started KFC with my first Social Security check”; and Samuel Seymour’s secret – “I am the last surviving eyewitness to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination” (he was five years old at the time of Lincoln’s death).
Many secrets are held within families, among friends or siblings, and even in the corporate workplace.
But there is one who knows our hearts and our inner thoughts. God knows the secrets of every person in creation. God knows the hopes, dreams, and thoughts which flash through our minds.
Though we have trouble comprehending it, God knows all about us and everyone we know and love. When we try to understand the enormity of God’s omniscience, I am reminded of a terrific book by J.B. Phillips titled, Your God is Too Small. Even as magnificent as we can imagine God’s mind and heart to be, they are larger still.
For God knows us and is present with us wherever we go. The Psalmist writes, “I can never be lost to your spirit. I can never get away from God’s presence” (Psalm 139:7-10).
And what a gift that presence is. Though we will never have all the answers, we do know the one who does. God is present, loving, and caring. Let us seek our true peace in the presence of Almighty God, who knows us better than we know ourselves
GOD'S FAITHFULNESS CONTINUES TO GUIDE THE STEWARDS OF THE LITTLE CHAPEL
Colin Campbell, our church's founder, passed away in 1883 from a heart attack he suffered during a Sunday service in the new chapel. His wife, Caroline, continued her love and support for the chapel until her death in 1900.Their youngest daughter Tina (tie-nah) kept the summer services going, along with her brother Forrest and her sister Jessie. Jessie played the organ, Forrest ferried the guests to the chapel, and Tina would boat from the island with the communion elements, stopping along the shore to pick water lilies to drape on the chapel's altar.

2024 WOMEN'S SUMMER BIBLE STUDY
ANGELS
Who they are, What they do, Why it matters By Dr. Jack Graham
Wednesday Mornings, 10 to 11:30 a.m. July 10 - August 28
Myths about angels are everywhere. Many of our ideas about angels come from the media, which are more interested in ratings than truth. It's important for Christians to understand what angels really are.
Dr. Jack Graham (no relation to Billy Graham) walks you through Scripture, revealing the truth about angels and what they offer us: encouragement, counsel, confirmation of God's will, strength, protection, wisdom, companionship and more. Focusing on practical application, Dr. Graham separates fact from fiction and demonstrates that the main role of angels isn't to draw attention to themselves, but to point us toward Christ.
This 8-week study includes both personal daily assignments and weekly group discussions. "Angel" books will be available at our first class.
--- Any questions or to sign up, call Bonnie Horner at 248-880-2327 or email bnnhrn@yahoo.com.
Mark your calendar now. Don’t miss this opportunity to enrich your relationship
with God by learning about angels. Come and bring friends and neighbors.
