A Note From Kai
Montessori parents and guides pride ourselves in respecting each individual child. The complexity of development paired with our current cultural 'norms' lands us in a difficult spot. We know screens are not good for the brain. Yet they are so handy. We know red dye 40 causes health issues. Yet it is sometimes hard to pass on convenience. We know outdoors is essential to development and fresh air brings peace to our bodies. Yet we allow kids to stay indoors when they push back.
We want to give children 'control' and 'a voice' - but that doesn't mean they need to run their lives and we don't get to navigate their path.
Being apart of the Montessori community means working towards what is best for your children. It doesn't mean we are perfect. It just means we know what the goals are and we intentionally put away our phones and put on our snowpants to get outside. It means with read an extra book at bedtime instead of watching a movie. It means living with purpose to give our children experiences that develop them into whole beings.
This does not need to cost money. Trips to the grocery store instead of pick up. A walk along the Kinny. A play at the park. A trip to the Public Library. So much is free around us! I encourage you to find ways to stretch into your child's childhood. Before you know it, they are OLD. This is the PERFECT weekend to try - warm weather and snow! Good luck and have fun!
Best,
Kai
