A Note from Mrs. Colangelo, Principal
Dear Sonoran Foothills Families,
As we move into March, I want to take a moment to highlight a few important reminders and exciting celebrations happening on our campus.
First, we ask for your partnership in ensuring that students arrive at school on time each day. Our gates open at 8:30 AM and close promptly at 8:45 AM. Learning begins immediately at 8:45 AM, and arriving late not only impacts your child’s education but also disrupts the classroom environment. This will be especially critical as we begin spring testing—consistent, on-time attendance sets students up for success!
Additionally, we want to remind families that we are a water-only campus. To help us keep our school clean, please ensure students are not bringing large coffees, sodas, or energy drinks to school. Your support in reinforcing this expectation is greatly appreciated!
On a celebratory note, our Spring Carnival is right around the corner on March 28th! We look forward to a fun-filled evening with our families and community. Spring sports are also in full swing with basketball and spiritline underway. A huge congratulations to our boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams on an amazing season! We are especially proud to celebrate our girls’ team as the 2A Champions and Northwest Region Champions!
Thank you for your continued support in making Sonoran Foothills an incredible place for our students to learn and grow!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Colangelo, Proud Principal

Meet Coach Milks, Our Boys Basketball Coach
Hello Bobcat families! My name is Coach Gavin. I will be leading the boy's basketball team this season. I have been a coach in many sports over the last two decades at many levels including college basketball. I have two children currently attending Sonoran Foothills, I look forward to a great season. Go Bobcats!
Meet Coach Joshua Baloney, Girls Basketball Coach
My name is Josh Baloney. I'm a 3rd year Special Education Teacher at Barry Goldwater, as well as serving as the inaugural Flag football coach for the past two seasons and Girls Basketball coach for the past 3 seasons. I'm originally from Louisiana and am a former prep sports player myself, participating in cross country, football, basketball, wrestling, and track. I've coached girls' basketball for the better part of 9 years now (six of those summers in Louisiana), from ages 10 - to 18. Basketball is one of my passions; I have great reverence for the sport. Even now, more so as the women's game has been on its take-off the last few years. The work I want to do with these student-athletes at Sonoran is more than just about winning games. It's to teach those who want a future in the sport the fundamentals early. It's to give those who are trying something new a safe place to try and to try and ensure everyone belongs. There is a place for everyone. Energy, effort, and attitude are how we measure success.
Meet Coach McCall, Spiritline Coach
My name is Maddison McCall, and I teach 3rd Grade at Sonoran Foothills! I grew up doing cheer, dance, and gymnastics starting at the age of 5. Throughout elementary and high school I participated in school and club cheer teams. After I graduated high school, I decided to start coaching while I was in college. I coached a club team for 5 years. This will now be my 3rd year coaching Sonoran Foothills spiritline. I am very excited for this season and to watch each athlete grow!

SF Environmental Input Form for Student Placement
DVUSD guidelines do not allow a specific teacher to be requested, but may allow parents to provide input on their child’s needs and the type of teacher that may best serve their child’s needs. It is our belief at SF that teachers and parents can provide the best education possible for our children by working together. The responsibility for assignment of students resides with the principal and teachers working together to place students in a learning environment that best meets the needs of the student. Also keep in mind that teachers may change grade levels and/or schools which also adjusts class placement. Therefore, providing detailed information regarding the preferred learning environment and your child’s needs is critical. If you have multiple children, you will need to fill out one form per child.
We will take the following information into consideration when placing your child with a classroom that best fits your child’s profile.
Form must be submitted by Friday, April 25, 2025. Any input provided after April 25 may not be considered due to scheduling timelines.
