Greetings MVMS Wildcat Families & Students~
Greetings MVMS Wildcats~
Welcome to Trimester 3!! Not only is this the week before Spring Break, but we are also having Spirit Week and we are bringing back some of our favorites!! Monday is wear Green, Tuesday is Sports Day, Wednesday is Anything But A Backpack, Thursday is Costume Day, and Friday is Pajama Day.
In the district newsletter shared last Friday from our Superintendent Mr. Parker said " It’s hard to believe that the third and final trimester of the 2024-2025 school year will begin this Monday. For many of our secondary students, the start of this trimester brings the excitement of new class schedules. Following that, we’ll all have the opportunity to recharge and enjoy a well-deserved Spring Break. As we enter the final stretch of the school year, we hope we can all find renewed energy and enthusiasm to finish strong. While the spring season may bring challenges in maintaining focus, especially as we look out at the gray skies and rain, let’s remain committed, stay focused, and continue moving forward together to end the year on a high note."
We couldn't agree more!! Let's start this new trimester and end the year on a high night Wildcats- LET'S GO MVMS!

Attendance At School Each Day Matters!
As we continue to work through cold and flu season we want to also let you know that we continue to be committed to supporting every student to be both academically and socially successful. Attendance matters, let's kick off our last trimester and finish the school year with strong attendance!!
Our goal this year is to ensure that every student attends school regularly. First Trimester average was about 92%, and our Second Trimester average 89% our Third Trimester Goal is 95%, help us get there.
School board policy JED-AR, provides a list of circumstances in which a principal shall excuse a student's absence.
3 Tips for Families & School
Support Attendance- a consistent and predictable routine for learning every day gives children an assuring sense of stability.
- Build Relationships- strong trusting relationships motivate students to attend school even when it isn't easy to get to class or participate, reach out to Teachers, Counselors (Elissa Hoelter- last name A-K, Maddie Kozloff- last name L-Z), Attendance Secretary (Isamar Ramirez) and Administrators (Jennifer Bailey and Lindsay Kopacek)- we can help.
- Collaborate- monitor your child's academic progress through ParentVue and seek help from teachers, counselors, After School Homework Club (Tues, Wed, Thurs 3:25 pm-4:30 pm). Make sure teachers know how to contact you!
When Are State Assessments Happening at MVMS, Who Takes Them, And Why Do We Take State Assessments?
The why…MVMS is committed to preparing every learner with academic knowledge and skills necessary for success beyond high school.
Who takes the assessments and what assessments are given? Oregon’s statewide assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics for all grades(6,7,8), and Science for 8th Grade only are fully aligned to Oregon’s State Standards. Most students complete their ELA assessment in 1.5 to 3 hours and their Mathematics assessment in 1 to 1.5 hours and Science 1 to 3 hours.
Why are these assessments important? These assessments act as a snapshot of your child’s progress that may be considered along with other pieces of information to determine your child’s academic success, help MVMS and NDSD evaluate our systems of teaching and learning, as well as identify groups of students whose academic needs may not be adequately met.
Why does a child’s participation matter? While no single assessment can give a complete picture of your child’s progress, having your child take the statewide assessments provides educators and administrators with a source of information about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources may be needed. Your child’s participation is important to ensure MVMS and NDSD receive the targeted resources we need to help all students succeed.
When will my child take the assessments?
- April 21-25 Monday- Wednesday, OSAS Science State Testing in Science Classes 8th Grade Only
- April 28th-May 2nd Monday-Friday, OSAS English Language Arts State Testing in Humanities Classes 6th, 7th, 8th Grade
- May 12th- May 16th Monday- Friday, OSAS Math State Testing in Math Classes 6th, 7th, 8th Grade
*There are make up dates in between these weeks to support students that need more time and/or were absent the dates of testing.
*Please see our District website for more information: https://www.newberg.k12.or.us/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=3678091&type=d&pREC_ID=2420407

When Is the Next Lockdown Drill?
During the month March Mountain View Middle School will be participating in an unannounced lockdown drill. The drill is a standard district-wide procedure intended to prepare our students and staff for an unexpected incident on our school’s campus. Just as we routinely practice fire and earthquake drills, we remind our school community of our response to a lockdown twice a year. A lockdown is called when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building. We use the following Standard Response Protocol:
The school is notified of a lockdown over the internal speaker system. Students gather in a corner of their classroom where they sit together silently. Staff are responsible for locking the classroom door, turning off the light, taking roll to account for students, and joining students in sitting together as quietly as possible. Staff and students remain sitting quietly until First Responders open the door.
Staff will review expectations with each of their classes. For passing times, lunches, before school, and after school times, students and staff will go to the nearest door/lockdown space.
Although we hope never to use them, our drills are intended to help our students, staff and families be prepared. Newberg Police Department will participate and offer feedback.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Office if you have any questions or concerns (503)554-4500.
Frequently Asked Question: How often do Safety Drills happen at MVMS?
Answer: We have 1 Fire Drill each month, 2 Earthquake Drills each year, 1 Bus Evacuation Drill each year, 1 announced Lockdown Drill in the Fall (communication is sent 1 week prior to the drill AND immediately after the drill takes place), and 1 unannounced Lockdown Drill in the Spring.
