Dear Newcomb K-8 Families and Friends,

This week we have a Sankofa Parent Village Meeting on Monday Night at 6:30 pm in the Library and a PTSA meeting at 6:30 on the Library on Tuesday night. All are welcome.

This Friday we will be another Family and Friends Friday where caregivers can walk students on campus starting at 7:30 am. Additionally, we will be on regular schedule this Friday, it is not a minimum day.

Please be sure to check our Lost and Found at the front gate. Any unclaimed items will be donated the week of 12/16. We will allow families to grab any unclaimed items and then all items will be donated.

Thank you to Sankofa & PTSA for making our Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day a Huge Success. Big shout out to Alycia Paul and the Sankofa team for all they are doing to raise student voice at Newcomb.

The Newcomb Foundation's Cowboy Casino Night was able to raise over $25k to support vital programs at Newcomb. Lauren Arevian, Jessica Hiruma and Krystle Fontana really went above and beyond to make this event super special. Also a big shout out to the entire committee of volunteers and the many parents that donated items to the auction. Your support means everything to our amazing school, our students and our staff.

On Tuesday, All elementary school classes will be taking class pictures. This is not a free dress day, please have students wear a Newcomb Spirit Shirt.

In addition, if your child did not take a picture in September, they will take a make-up picture on Tuesday as well. This is not a free dress day.

Students will be allowed to wear powder blue tops and accessories on Friday, 11/22 in support of National Diabetes Awareness Month.

Girl's Track and Field-

The Practice meet was held on Saturday and the girls did great. Their next meet is Saturday 12/7 at Wilson High School.

Fall Dance- The Dance on Friday was a blast, thanks to ASB and Ms. Al-Mulla for hosting and organizing this event. Be on the look out for more information about future dances and ASB events.

Middle School Clubs & Activities-

A List of Clubs and Activities will be posted after Fall Break. After soliciting student feedback we are working on more clubs and activities student can take part in.

Parents and Guardians-

Please do not have fast food delivered or dropped off in the office. This creates problems for our office staff. The food also attracts ants. In rare cases food is picked up be the wrong person. We do not have the staffing to monitor items left in the office. If a student forgets their lunch, all students have access to a free breakfast and lunch in the Cafeteria. Thanks for your help with this.

After school playground supervision will begin on the 2nd day of school. Supervision will run from the end of school until 3:00 pm M-F. All students must be picked up by 3 pm. After 3 pm we do not have any adult supervision. Any students who are not picked up will be brought to the main office.

***The only exception will be on minimum days, when supervision will go from 1 pm to 2 pm.

Below is our emergency drill schedule for the entire year. We practice each month evacuating the entire school. Staff and students prepare for fire and earthquake emergencies and we also practice Lock Down Drills (in the event there is an intruder on campus or police activity in the neighborhood). We also practice Shelter in Place Drills in the event their is an environmental emergency like heavy rain or a lightning storm, bee swarm or gas link. All classrooms are equipped with first aide kits and emergency supplies. This year we will be practicing a full scale disaster drill in February. The Newcomb team is fully prepared to ensure the health and safety of all our students and staff.
