Where is GATE taking us?
April Standards
GS4. Students will develop affective attributes to build their motivation and enjoyment of complex challenges.
Curriculum
This quarter students will work on individual simple machines such as a lever, pulley, wedge, and wheel with axle. They will be building simple machines out of the donated materials and then apply it to a Rube Goldberg contraption. Using the Engineering Design Process strategy, students will start with a simple design and then create a more complex designs by adding extra components. It is an ongoing process as they build, test, and improve their work towards a Rube Goldberg like machine. Please ask your student about their creation. Please keep in mind that productive struggle is the process of rigorous learning that develops grit and creative problem solving.
