Note from the Principal
As October begins we find ourselves nearing the end of the first quarter of the school year. Shadowlawn has had a strong start to the year and we are set up for success!
During the first 7 weeks all classes spent time daily learning about success strategies for positive behavior such as Accepts Responsibly for Choices and Actions and Strives for Quality Work. Ask your child to share with you some of the learning they did during their Blueprint lessons as they are great skills for life-long success.
Many thanks to those of you who came out to our Curriculum Night in September and had an opportunity to learn what to expect this school year from your child's teachers. We hope you can join us for our Spooky STEM night on October 22nd. This will be a fun, interactive evening for the whole family - and we'll be serving a pizza dinner!
The 1st quarter ends on October 17th. Printed report cards will be send home on October 28th.
We hope all of you faired well during the recent storm. If your family needs assistance or support with anything please reach out to our school counselor, Mr. Conceicao who can be reached via email at concee@collierschools.com or by phone at 377-8406.
Wishing you all a lovely fall!
Amber Eliason, Principal

October Character Traits: Cooperation, Honor & Respect
This month, our character traits at Shadowlawn Elementary are Cooperation, Honor, and Respect. Once again this month, one of our character traits, respect, is one of our 3 school-wide expectations as well. We are continuing to recognize students who have done an outstanding job demonstrating these traits throughout the month. Our next Student Leader of the Month celebration is scheduled for October 4th and we can’t wait to see our next group of students being recognized!
Around the School
Kindergarten
Ship's ahoy! Kindergarteners are off on their adventure of learning letters and numbers in various ways. During Freedom Week, we are discovering America and showing our patriotism by creating the American Flag on postcards.
1st Grade
Our first graders are busy bees in the classroom! In math, they’re diving deep into fact families, mastering addition and subtraction facts with confidence. Over in ELA, they’re becoming mighty cartographers, creating their own maps to showcase their knowledge on their community. Lastly, during Hispanic Heritage Month, students are exploring different rich cultures and contributions of famous figures.
2nd Grade
Second grade is working on Text features. Students in Ms. Denis and Ms. Rupert’s class are working in small groups. Next time you’re on campus, be sure to check out their excellent work
3rd Grade
Third grade has been deeply engaged in our first novel study of the year, Charlotte’s Web, where we are diving deep exploring character’s perspective by examining what characters feel, think, see, say and do. We have also enjoyed a trip to the Artis of Naples to learn about instruments in an orchestra. Finally, students have also been busy learning multiplication times tables facts in creative ways.
4th Grade
4th grade students in Ms. Kuhn’s ELA class taking full advantage of learning about American leaders during America’s Founders Month! They have spent the month of September growing reading comprehension skills, while also incorporating social studies to enhance their knowledge on our country. Reading rocks!!!
5th Grade
Fifth-grade scientists had a blast during Lab Day, exploring hands-on activities including separating mixtures of sand and iron filings. Students also delved into the fascinating world of owl pellets, analyzing them to discover what owls eat. It was a day full of discovery, problem-solving, and excitement for our young learners!
