Berkley High School has been selected by Oakland Schools to pilot three different career exploration platforms/online programs.

And... Mrs. Belsky needs your help!

I need 25 students to meet with me three times this year as a group. We will meet during school day for a class period in the College + Career Center. At each meeting, we will try out an online program and talk about what we liked and didn't like about it.

• Meeting #1: Date TBD Nov-Dec during 2nd hour
• Meeting #2: Date TBD Jan-Feb during 3rd hour
• Meeting #3: Date TBD March-April during 4th hour

If you are interested in helping, please sign up! You must be able to attend all three meetings.

Ten BHS sophomores will be selected!

• COST = $110 per exam ($156 for AP Seminar/Research exam)
  
• FREE/REDUCED COST = $15 per exam. You will pay $45 up front, and be refunded $30 once youtube the exam in May.
  
• Students can indicate when registering if they receive free/reduced lunch. BHS will then verify after student registers.
  
• TAKE AP EXAM ON LATE DATE = Additional $100 fee

• $100 LATE registration fee per exam
• COST = $210 per exam ($256 for AP Seminar/Research exam)
  
• FREE/REDUCED COST = $115 per exam

During a College Info Session, a college admissions representative/counselor presents to a group of BHS juniors and seniors about their college, admission requirements, application process, scholarships, campus life, and more!

Meeting the college admissions representative for a school you are interested in applying to can be very helpful during the application process. Especially if a school visiting is one of your first choices, introducing yourself to the representative can go a long way!

• You must sign up at least 1 day in advance.
• You must be in the 11th or 12th grade.
• You must use your confirmation email as your pass to leave class. You will not be called down.
• You can sign up for up to five info sessions.

• Eastern Michigan University has it's own episode on the Amazon Prime series, The College Tour. The EMU episode will be released on Amazon Prime and other streaming networks on October 15th.

• Fall Open House is scheduled for Saturday, October 26 from 10 AM - 2 PM. The Explore Eastern Open House provides an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about EMU's admissions, scholarships, academic programs, campus life, and more.

• The Presidential Scholarship is EMU's most prestigious award and it is valued at over $120,000. The deadline to apply is December 13, 2024.

• Exploration Day. This event is for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in exploring dynamic career and education options. Participate in three interactive, hands-on sessions specially designed to expose you to the rich variety of programs at Lawrence Tech. Join us on Friday, October 11th from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm and be inspired and challenged by Lawrence Tech professors.

• Visit Days. Meet students and faculty and explore degree options, financial aid, and campus living. Discover more about our 100 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs in the Colleges of Architecture and Design, Arts and Sciences, Business and Information Technology, Engineering, and Health Sciences. Saturday, November 16 at 10:00 AM & Saturday, December 14 at 10:00 AM.

• Health Sciences Day. Friday, October 25 at 10:00 AM. Meet students and faculty and explore degree options in the health sciences! Biomedical Engineering, Natural Sciences - Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, Nursing, Psychology.

Established in 1947, our Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 25,000 ninth through 12th grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $1 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.

The national first place winner receives a $35,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. A complete list of other national scholarships range from $1,000-$21,000, and the first place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins at least a scholarship of $1,000. Before submitting your essay, download the 2024-2025 entry form here and find your sponsoring local VFW Post as applications must be turned in by midnight, Oct. 31.

The NROTC or Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship is a FULL-RIDE Scholarship to approximately 140 different universities across the country. This scholarship is available to any high school senior who wishes to apply.

It is a highly competitive scholarship, and winners who choose to use the scholarship would be required to, at the end of their college career, commission as an officer in either the Navy or Marine Corps.

Additionally, winners that use the scholarship can use it for their freshman year, and if they decide that they no longer wish to continue have no obligation to pay back (only applicable prior to starting Sophomore year of college).

Detroit Zoo’s upcoming Teen Conservation Summit, an exciting opportunity for young environmentalists to engage in meaningful conservation work!

Event Details:

What to Expect: The Teen Conservation Summit is designed for students who are passionate about the environment and eager to make a difference. During this day-long event, participants will:

• Connect with conservation experts and like-minded peers
• Participate in interactive workshops and hands-on activities
• Learn about current conservation challenges and innovative solutions
• Develop their own conservation projects to implement in their schools or communities

Why Attend? This summit is not only an educational experience but also an opportunity for students to grow as leaders in their communities. By attending, they will:

• Gain a deeper understanding of global and local conservation issues
• Enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Receive guidance on how to turn their passion for conservation into actionable projects

Who Should Attend? We encourage participation from high school students who are interested in environmental science, biology, or any related field. Whether they are seasoned conservation advocates or just beginning their journey, this summit will provide valuable insights and inspiration.

Parents, you and your 7 through 12 graders are invited to a real-life legal experience! The two sessions occur in local courtrooms and will offer an interactive way to learn about the legal system and the consequences of breaking the law. Join us from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm

The Oakland Community Health Network (OCHN) Mental Health School Navigators are Behavioral Health Professionals that provide outreach and resources to Schools in Oakland County. Their goal is to reduce barriers to mental health services which sometimes includes financial difficulties.

OCHN’s Mental Health School Navigators can provide families with a financial reimbursement resource that provides up to $2000 per household to help cover co-pays and deductibles by a qualified mental health professional, such as for therapy or psychiatry.

These funds are available to any Oakland County student. For more information and to be considered for the reimbursement, complete this form.
