Code Red Drill
Upcoming Safety Drill Notification
Dear MCP Families,
We hope this message finds you well. At Milwaukee College Prep, the safety and well-being of our scholars is our highest priority. As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure school environment, we will be conducting a Code Red lockdown drill on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
What is a Code Red Lockdown Drill?
A Code Red lockdown drill is a practice exercise designed to prepare our scholars and staff to respond effectively in the event of an emergency that requires us to secure the building. During the drill, all scholars and staff will practice specific safety measures, such as locking doors, turning off lights, and remaining out of sight.
What You Need to Know:
The drill will take place on Wednesday, October 15th and will last for approximately 15 minutes.
Teachers will discuss the importance of the drill with scholars beforehand (the morning of October 15th) to ensure they understand its purpose and to minimize any potential anxiety.
The purpose of this drill is to practice safety procedures, similar to how we practice fire drills, and it will be conducted in a calm, organized manner.
School Social Workers and Mental Health Therapists will be available to support any scholars who may need assistance before, during, or after the drill.
We understand that drills of this nature can sometimes cause concerns for families. Please be assured that this is a planned, precautionary practice to help ensure that our entire school community is prepared in the unlikely event of an emergency.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the upcoming drill, feel free to contact us. We are here to support our scholars and families through this process and want everyone to feel safe and informed.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school a safe place for all.
Scholar Drop Off
Keep in mind that traffic has to keep moving in the front of the building in the morning.
- All active drop offs occur on the school side of the street - doors are open at each end of the building
- Traffic needs to flow in the middle with NO students exiting cars away from the curb
Please help us keep the traffic flowing by making sure your scholar is ready to get out of the vehicle with all of their belongings so you are not holding up traffic.
- If you prefer to walk them to the door, please pull over to the other side of the street, and walk your scholar up to the building.
Thanks to those families who have already been doing this!

Field Trip Criteria
Field Trips are an extension of the academic lesson. We offer field trips to expose students to geographic areas, various types of food, music and people and extend classroom learning.
At Milwaukee College Prep, we consider field trips to be a privilege.
In order for students to participate in experiences outside of the building, we expect them to follow classroom and school rules regularly as well as maintain a positive attitude. Students must show respect for their teacher and classmates while in the building in order to sustain such respect outside of school. We want students to recognize the importance of building and maintaining a sterling reputation. Scholars will be excluded from attending a field trip if:
● Scholar earns two withdrawals (discipline and/or life’s work) within the 5 school days prior to the field trip.
● Scholar is suspended within the 5 school days prior to the field trip
● Scholars who receive a discipline full withdrawal on the day of the field trip may be excluded from a field trip at the principal’s discretion.
● Scholars who have earned a full withdrawal while on a field trip may be excluded from participation in future field trips.
● If your child loses the privilege to attend the field trip they will remain with an administrator or be placed in another classroom.
In any case, parents will be notified upon the child receiving the second full withdrawal or suspension. Parents/Guardians interested in chaperoning a field trip should contact their child’s teacher.
Only requested chaperones on the field trip will have expenses of the field trip paid on their behalf. Chaperones are responsible for supervising students and may not bring other children on the field trip including other Milwaukee College Prep scholars.
After School Activities
Practices - Please pick up your scholars by 4:45 at the end of activities.
Siblings cannot wait with people in sports. The will need to be picked up during dismissal.
MCP Fast Food Policy
Fast Food Lunches (MCP Family Handbook pg. 14)
We kindly request your support in upholding our wellness policy by providing nutritious lunches for your children, while discouraging the inclusion of fast food. However, we understand that there may be exceptional circumstances or special occasions where fast food is necessary. In such instances, we urge parents to consider healthier alternatives, such as subs. Please be aware that our guidelines regarding the prohibition of soda and portion sizes apply universally, whether the lunch is brought from home or purchased from a fast food establishment.
In order to maintain an environment conducive to focused learning, MCP has instituted a policy that strictly prohibits the delivery of food by third-party companies, including but not limited to; UberEats, Grubhub, and DoorDash. Additionally, attempts to deliver food by individuals not identified on the scholar's MCP profile will be denied. Likewise, we cannot accept or accommodate food deliveries made by parents/ guardians after the scholar's designated lunch period has ended. Any such deliveries will either be declined or disposed of accordingly. It is important to emphasize that MCP lacks the necessary refrigeration space and oversight to safely monitor food left for scholars outside of the specified policy guidelines outlined above.
