Transition Events Spring 2024
February 27, 2024 - Middle School Music Festival
Each of the 5 feeder schools will be invited to a special showcase of our performing arts ensembles during the school day, including the Day Chorus, Band, Orchestra and Jazz Band to get a preview of the exciting performance groups they can join in the fall.
March 7, 2024 - Parent and Caregiver Evening at F.A. Day
We welcome all parents and caregivers of current 5th grade students who will be attending Day in fall 2024 for school tours and an orientation. Come meet the members of the Day Admin Team, counselors and faculty as they review some important information about your child's transition to middle school.
6:30 p.m. Student Led Tours leaving Day Cafeteria, 1st Floor: Anyone interested in a brief student-led tour of the school should meet in the cafeteria promptly at 6:30 p.m.where student tour guides will gather small groups to lead a tour of the building.
7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Parent/Caregiver Orientation in the Auditorium: The Day Admin and Counseling Teams as well as faculty will provide an overview of the transition to Day. Time will be left for a brief Q&A following the presentation.
Note:
- This event is for parents and caregivers ONLY. We have scheduled other orientation events for students.
- A recorded and translated version of this event will be sent out to incoming families following this event.
Tuesday, March 12, 2024: Day Student Services Incoming Parent Info Session
Families with students on Individualized Education Plans (IEPS) or who received accommodations through 504 Plans are welcome to join Mike Thurm, Assistant Principal for Student Services for an overview of our special education service delivery and accommodation support model at Day.
The Day Student Services 6th Grade Parent Info Session is on Tuesday, March 12th and will be held virtually. You can access the meeting by using link below:

DAY PTO MEETING- SAVE THE DATE MARCH 27th
The Day PTO is hosting an in-person meeting for incoming parents and caregivers to join current Day parents to learn about the school community and ways to get involved.
Join Principal Jackie Mann, Day PTO Board Cedar Pruitt, Tramy Lao and Amy Horsman as well as Day School Council Co-Chair Christine Dutt to learn more about volunteer opportunities at Day.

Principal Mann Visits the Five Feeder Schools
Every year, Principal Mann visits all of the 5th grade classrooms at each of the 5 feeder schools to speak with students in small groups about the transition to middle school. We bring back 2-3 current 6th grade students from each feeder school with Principal Mann to answer any student questions about the transition to middle school.
Below is the schedule for this spring's visits:
May 3 Cabot Elementary Visit

May 15 Burr Elementary Visit
May 20 Peirce Elementary Visit
May 31 Franklin Elementary Visit (new date)
JUNE 7th - STEP UP DAY 2024
Friday, June 7, 2024
All incoming 6th graders will spend the afternoon with Day Faculty getting to know the school and our community.
Students will follow an abbreviated school schedule visiting with 6th grade team and multi-team teachers for 10 minute intervals.
Students will be transported or walk directly from their feeder schools and will return there after their visit to Day.
Students new to Newton or not transitioning from one of the feeder schools are also invited to attend on this day. Please reach out to Donna Fisher for more information: fisherd@newton.k12.ma.us
