Principal's Corner
Thank you to everyone who gave feedback for the Paw Prints newsletter! We are trying to implement some changes based on what we heard from all of you. We heard that some of you want to get more volunteer information in this newsletter, and we included some information in the last newsletter about the volunteer coordination. We kept it in this issue in case anyone missed it. Classroom support requests will come from teachers so look for communication from your teachers about classroom volunteer opportunities. We would love to include links to sign up for BSCO events in this newsletter, but the links can only be shared via ParentSquare. There is a guide below that shows how to find the signups there any time.
We are also looking for ways to include more photos, assembly highlights, and staff information. At this time, it is easier for our staff to quickly post to our social media so if you can follow us on Instagram, you will get to see much more than what is shared in this newsletter. (Scroll down to the bottom for our Instagram information). I know not everyone is interested in social media so I will keep working at the communications through this newsletter as much as I can.
It has been a fun Read Across America Week! I loved getting to be a guest reader in some classes, and hearing the excitement of buddy classes getting to read together. I hope you have been able to hear about the special reading activities that happened in classrooms this week!
Families can do a lot to support literacy at home and keep the momentum going. Please keep talking with students about books they are reading, read together at home as much as possible, and encourage students to read at home every day. Reading at home is an important way to support student achievement in school.
We are going to keep the reading excitement going with our book fair later this month. I hope to see you at the family night event!
All the best,
Betty

Spring Book Fair
Dear Bonny Slope Families:
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.
Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from Monday, March 17th through Thursday, March 20th in the library:
Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy. Remember, even if you set up an eWallet in the past, you must create a new eWallet for each Fair.
The children will be coming through the Book Fair during their Library Specials, and after-school shopping is available until 4pm on Monday, 3/17.
Family Night is Wednesday, March 19th from 3 - 6:30pm. Please join us for fun activities including Bingo, a poster raffle, and more!!
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school. You can shop the Online Book Fair from March 17 - March 30 at the link below.
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

Happy Reading!
Culture Night
CALLING ALL BONNY SLOPE FAMILIES AND STAFF!
Join us in creating our first-ever BSE Cultural Cookbook.
In celebration of Culture Night, BSCO is creating a digital cookbook to showcase our community’s diverse cultures. Everyone is welcome to submit a family recipe, whether or not you can attend. Recipes can include appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, desserts, beverages, and more. Share a dish that represents your culture, family tradition, or favorite meal. Recipes with everyday ingredients and straightforward steps are encouraged to allow all skill levels to participate. We welcome you to tell your story with a short description and a photo would be helpful. Please contribute to the cookbook by submitting through Google Form or email your recipe and photo to Cultural@bonnyslopebsco.org before Monday, March 15th. For additional questions, contact Brittni Henry, brittnihenry1@gmail.com.
Science Night
Save The Date, Science Night is back! This family-friendly annual BSCO event is returning to Bonny Slope on Friday, May 9 from 6-8 PM. This is a fun-filled evening of hands-on science exploration! Stay tuned for more information.
Yearbook Committee
2024-2025 Yearbooks Orders + We need Photos!
The Yearbook needs more photos! Please help us by uploading photos of your child in class parties and school activities. Visit the Yearbook website to upload photos and to order yearbook if you haven’t done so yet. Yearbook for this school year is $17, which can be paid online or by check/cash. The book will feature portraits from picture day and photos from all the exciting activities throughout the school year. This is a great keepsake for kids and families to flip through for years to come. Important dates for this year’s yearbook:
April 12 - Photo submission deadline
May 9 - Yearbook order deadline
June - Yearbooks delivered to classrooms
Please note: If your student attended picture day in the fall or spring, their portrait will appear in the yearbook. If not, families can provide an alternate portrait for inclusion in the yearbook.
Please contact the yearbook committee with any questions at yearbook@bonnyslopebsco.org.
5th Grade Slideshow
Hello 5th Grade Parents!
The end of the year is upon us and BSCO is working hard behind the scenes to celebrate our 5th Graders. A favorite tradition of many is the 5th grade slideshow. This will be a wonderful trip down memory lane for our students and parents. We need as many photos as possible starting from when our kids were in Kindergarten way back in 2019!
Please use the link below to upload photos for each grade your child attended Bonny Slope. The photos can be from any Bonny Slope Elementary related event such as Art Lit, Jog-a-thon, Field trips, School parties, etc. We have also included an “Individual Photo” folder. Please upload no more than 6 individual photos of your child.
Online school for half of kindergarten and all of 1st grade was tough! For those two years, we would like to see photos from your online learning adventures, study groups/pods, and other learning activities that took place.
The kids absolutely LOVE seeing themselves grow through the years at Bonny Slope. By uploading as many photos as possible, your child will laugh and giggle with their friends as they say, “I remember that!” We want every child to enjoy seeing themselves up on the big screen so please upload all your photos by Friday, May 2nd.
If you have any questions, please reach out to us! The slideshow email is below. We look forward to seeing these folders fill up with photos.
Thanks,
5th Grade Activities Committee

We want everyone to be able to attend who would like to!
If you have further questions, please reach out to our auction team at auction@bonnyslopebsco.org.
Families can support this work at home by talking with students about what they are learning about integrity and ways they can demonstrate integrity both inside and outside of school.
Repeat: Raptor Safe App - for quicker sign in at school!
We are excited to announce that our district is adopting the Raptor Safe mobile app as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining visitor management in our schools. This app builds on our existing visitor procedures, offering a more convenient and secure check-in process for everyone.
What is the Raptor Safe App?
The Raptor Safe app offers a convenient and secure way for visitors to manage and verify their identity before arriving at a school. With the Raptor Passport feature, visitors can pre-verify their identity, allowing for a seamless sign-in process when they arrive on campus.
How Does It Work?
When visiting a school, visitors can use their secure QR code generated by the app to expedite the check-in process. QR codes automatically regenerate every 5 minutes to ensure security and prevent misuse. Please remember that our visitor wiFi and phone service are not always reliable in our building which may hinder the use of the Raptor Safe App.
Getting Started
The Raptor Safe app is available to all visitors across the district. To download the app, please visit https://raptortech.com/raptorsafe-app/.
For questions or assistance, please contact Bonny Slope Office staff: 503.356.2040 or bslp-communications@beaverton.k12.or.us . Thank you for helping us keep our schools safe.
Ways to Volunteer at Bonny Slope (Repeat)
There has been some concern shared about the changes in the way volunteer opportunities are shared, and the volunteer sign up process. Because the school district now requires volunteer sign ups to be posted in ParentSquare, BSCO is limited in the way they can request volunteers and share opportunities. The volunteer opportunities that BSCO manages can only be posted in ParentSquare, and it is not possible to include links to the sign up in this newsletter or anywhere outside of ParentSquare. There are a couple of ways families can get BSCO event sign up information.
1) BSCO sends a newsletter in ParentSquare with the volunteer information
2) Families can check ParentSquare and access the Sign Ups any time
Classroom teachers manage their own volunteer opportunities and will send out their own information about how to sign up. If you are interested in volunteering in the classroom, please reach out to the classroom teacher. Teachers will sometimes not have volunteer needs.
We appreciate all of our volunteers! Please reach out to the office if you would like any help with finding the sign ups.
On a desktop, the volunteer sign ups can be found in the menu as shown below.
On a phone, go to the three dot menu at the bottom
Select Sign Ups and RSVPs
