COMMUNICATION FOR THE HES COMMUNITY
June 2025
The month of May kicked off with state testing, but we quickly shifted gears and filled the rest of the month with exciting and memorable events!
We started strong with an incredible Teacher-Staff Appreciation Week, thanks to our amazing PTO. Tying into our Olympic theme, the staff were celebrated like champions—with themed decorations, a delicious luncheon, thoughtful gifts, and daily affirmations. Families and students joined in by sharing gift cards, flowers, sweet notes, and treats. Thank you to everyone who helped make our staff feel so appreciated!
Students took part in the Jump Rope for Heart Challenge last month learning about heart health while raising funds for the American Heart Association—a fun and active way to give back.
The PTO also treated students to a special Little Circus Performance, which was a huge hit! The performances were amazing to watch, with many students thrilled to be part of the show.
Later in the month, our HopeWellness SEL Day gave students the opportunity to relax and recharge with calming activities like sidewalk chalk, mindfulness breaks, and peaceful time in our Hammock Garden with a lot of help from our HOPE Squad!
Field trips added to the excitement, thank you to our PTO! First graders had a hands-on adventure at Doyle’s Farm, while fourth graders experienced live music at the Princeton Symphony Orchestra and visited Central High School to hear the high school band perform. Fifth graders wrapped up the month with a fun and educational trip to the Liberty Science Center, where they explored, discovered, and learned together.
Our second graders kept busy too—they wowed us with an adorable mini musical and impressed everyone with their creative “Habitat Hoopla” projects.
We ended the month with Field Day 2025, a day filled with sunshine, games, and school spirit. A big thank you to our former students and CHS seniors who returned to volunteer. One of the most memorable moments? Watching the fifth graders take on—and defeat—the HES staff in an epic kickball showdown!
As we approach the end of the school year at Hopewell Elementary School, there’s still so much fun ahead! From exciting end-of-year celebrations to our 5th Grade Graduation, we’re looking forward to finishing strong and sending our students into summer with smiles and great memories.

HES Turns 100 Next Year!!!
From 1924 to 1966, HES served students from Kindergarten through 8th grade—until Timberlane Middle School opened. In 1952, the graduating class had just 29 students. This year, our 5th grade class includes 64 students!
Starting in 1947, each graduating class began presenting the school with a commemorative plaque, which continued until 1966. These plaques are made of pine, shaped like shields and display the names of graduating students in two or three columns. They feature class colors chosen by the students, including combinations like blue, blue & white, blue & gold, and red & white. You can find more information about this tradition HERE.
You can still find many of these beautiful plaques displayed throughout the school—each one a reminder of the generations of students who’ve called HES home.

Counselor Corner
Thank you for your continued support of your child(ren)’s social and emotional growth at home throughout the year. From Hopewell Hoorays, Positive Office Referrals, and Whole School Meetings to SEL Days and our monthly CharacterStrong trait focus, every student at HES has fostered their character development this year as we made a commitment to LEAP together. We've had countless meaningful moments celebrating good character both in the classroom and across the school, and we truly appreciate your partnership in making that possible.
We are closing out the year as we began with a focus on Kindness. Check out this kindness checklist to spread kindness throughout our community this month and during the summer as a family. Thank you for LEAPing Together this year with good character!

Are you in the directory yet?

Sign up for the school directory to manage the information you want to share and choose whether to receive important PTO announcements about upcoming events such as the school T-shirt giveaway and the book fair.
