November 2018 Monthly Newsletter
Happy November, Rainiers!
Greetings Columbia Crest Families,
Sweater weather, falling leaves, Thanksgiving and parent-teacher conferences officially mark the return of November. I really want to express my appreciation during this month of thankfulness for the opportunity to work with your children. I am thankful every morning as I enter Columbia Crest that I found my way to this school in this wonderful place. Leading students toward learning and reaching their potential makes this position a gift. Enjoy your fall and all the special days it provides.
With Gratitude,
Principal Shew

Thank You, Dogwood Gardening Club
During our recent Hands-on-Health Classes learned about essential nutrient vitamin K's role in blood clotting; and vitamin C's role in growing skin, bone and muscle tissue, and ate broccoli, a good source of both vitamins. Others also learned about vitamin B6's role in transporting brain and nerve impulses; then ate cucumbers, rich in all 3 vitamins. In addition, we made food charts, identifying what part of a plant a food comes from!

Orange & Grapefruit Sales
Our annual Orange and Grapefruit ASB fundraiser is officially underway!
We have partnered with the same awesome company, The Orange Guy, who provides us with a high quality product.
Prices for both oranges and grapefruits have gone up slightly due to weather, but we are staying with the same price as last year of $35 a case.
Orders are due on November 16th. We expect the delivery to be between November 28th – 30th. Our goal is to sell 100 cases so we receive front door delivery to our school.
We are also happy to have found a new way to share the money made from this fundraiser between our General Student ASB and individual classes. Students will receive raffle tickets and credits when they sell.
There will be prizes for our top seller, everyone who sells and the first students who bring in orders the day after this goes home.
Please join us in making this the best sale ever as the students have great ideas for activities they want to sponsor.
Thank you,

Student Misbehavior Decline
Teachers have implemented many changes this year that have contributed to students remaining in class instead of resulting in office referrals. A few of these changes are calm corners within the classrooms, flexible seating options, deep breathing and other strategies that address the whole child.

Birth to 5 Years Old
Child Find Notice
Are you worried about your child’s development?
Does your child have a medical disorder or birth defect that interferes with their development?
- Does the child seem to have hearing or vision issues?
- Does your child have difficulty communicating with people outside the family?
- Does your child have difficulty keeping up with other children their age?
- Does your child have concerning behaviors?
Any child, birth to five, whose family or caregivers would like more information about their child’s development can contact the Eatonville School District to receive a free Child Find Screening.
What happens during a Child Find Screening?
The purpose of a Child Find Screening is to identify issues that may affect your child’s learning, growth, and development and to help parents identify their child’s strengths and weaknesses.
During the screening, your child may stack small blocks, cut with scissors, draw, count, name colors, jump, and have fun!
After the screening, someone will talk to you about the results, and you may be given suggestions, a referral for more testing, or scheduled to have skills rechecked later. You will have the chance to ask any questions about your child’s development. The whole process takes about one hour.
Where can I go for screening?
All school districts in Washington State have Child Find Screenings available.
For more information and to schedule a screening in your school district, please contact:
Eatonville School District, Student Services office at (360) 879-1800.
If your family is living in a temporary situation, you may contact the district where you are currently staying for a screening.
WAC 392-172A-02040 - School districts shall conduct child find activities calculated to reach all students with a suspected disability for the purpose of locating, evaluating and identifying students who are in need of special education and related services, regardless of the severity of their disability.
