Leadership Message
Dear St. Luke Families,
As we continue our journey beyond the Easter celebration, we can carry with us the spirit of renewal and hope that spring time brings. Easter reminds us of the power of resilience, the beauty of new beginnings, and the importance of unity within our school community. Let us all strive to create an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
We are encouraging all our students to approach each day with enthusiasm, positivity, and a commitment to excellence as we work to create a positive difference in the lives of those around us and in the world at large.
I hope your weekend is filled with joy, inspiration, and meaningful connections. May we all continue to grow and flourish together as a school community, supporting each other every step of the way.

EICS message regarding the Partial Solar Eclipse on Monday
Elk Island Catholic Schools is preparing for a partial solar eclipse that will occur during the lunch hour on Monday, April 8. It will occur between approximately 11:40 AM and 1:40 PM, depending on individual schools. St. Luke will have students stay indoors for the lunch recess and will have no outside activities until the solar eclipse is over.
While it is never safe to look directly at the sun without proper eye protection, there is an increased likelihood of people looking at the sun in an attempt to view the partial solar eclipse. As a result, we are adjusting schedules to prioritize the health and safety of our students and staff.
To learn more about solar eclipses, visit the following websites:

The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority.
New Technology Fee for the 2024-2025 School Year
EICS is proposing a new technology fee for students in Grades K through 12 to help cover the increasing costs of providing technology resources. This new fee will replace the K-3 technology fee of $20.00. The proposed fee will be $30.00 per student and will fund various hardware and software needs, such as Chromebooks, Adobe and Microsoft licenses, career guidance software, accessibility software, specialty math software, library software, and other licenses determined by school administration. However, the fee will not be used for network or technology infrastructure costs or staff devices or software.
If you have any questions about either of these fees, please call the school 780-922-5920.

GrACE Contest - OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS
All EICS students are invited to participate in this year's Annual GrACE Contest in Partnership with the REAL Foundation. 2023-2024 Theme: Go Light Our World, “Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
GrACE exists to inspire, invigorate and embolden the spirit of Catholic education in order to unite, engage, educate and communicate with one voice on its behalf. GrACE, in partnership with the REAL Foundation, is happy to present this contest to EICS students. This is our sixth annual GrACE Contest: A Celebration of Catholic Education.
We invite EICS students of all grade levels to submit work reflecting the importance of, and their experience with or contribution to Catholic education. This year our theme is Go Light Our World. Entries need to reflect this theme. It is often helpful if students include a few sentences to go with their entry on how it is connected to this year’s theme.
Student Submissions could include such things as (but not limited to):
A work of art
A poster
A formal or informal essay
Original music
Poetry
A presentation (video or otherwise) of social justice work
Contest Rules
All Submissions due to your school chaplain, Miss Boehm, by April 22
Prizes will be presented May 5 in each community’s parish (This is the kick-off to Catholic Education Week). There will be 14 prizes!
K-8 students = 50 dollar prize in the form of a gift card
9-12 students = 100 dollar prize in the form of a gift card
Learners and Learning
Our Prekindergartens embarked on a creative journey, crafting their own nature man using sticks, leaves, and pinecones. This imaginative exploration fosters a bond with nature while enhancing their fine motor skills.
In our grade 5 and 6 foods class, students became kitchen ninjas as they chopped veggies and slice fruit with style! It's a tasty adventure filled with laughter and culinary creativity.

We are Stronger Together - Lenten Campaign
This Lent EICS is continuing to partner with Catholic Social Services to support Refugees and Newcomers.
Every day Catholic Social Services is called upon to support women, men and children coming from countries such as Syria, Dominican Republic of Congo, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Venezuela, Honduras…. who have fled their country of origin in search of safety and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
Presently CSS provides settlement support to clients in need of emergency accommodation. Many are arriving with few personal items and limited financial means.
Donations made to this Lenten Campaign will go towards Catholic Social Services, Refugees and Newcomers Fund which helps CSS respond to the urgent needs of these clients, and allows us to provide food, clothing, school supplies and accommodations for the refugees who need it most.
