Week of February 10, 2025
From Mr. Liggett
Dear FCMS Families,
I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support of our school’s initiatives this year. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful students here at FCMS. Of course, like any school, we have our moments, but the positives far outweigh the challenges.
Your support is invaluable in ensuring that every decision we make is in the best interest of our students. Through our partnership, we continue to foster a positive, engaging, and successful learning environment for all.
Thank you for being a part of our FCMS family!

Solo & Ensemble
Congratulations to the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band students who performed at the Solo & Ensemble contest on Saturday in Columbus, IN. Three students received silver medals, and 32 students received gold medals for their performances.
A special congratulations to soloists Lilliana Boone, Mackenzie Eads, Brigitte Day, and percussion ensemble Emma Amburgey, Lily Pardick, and Matti Barber for receiving the best possible score from their judges!
From 6th Grade
Mrs. Ariens’s classes participated in brand new Writing activity called “We Will Write”. It was a hit with all classes! Students were placed into teams, and wrote 3 timed short writing bursts. After each writing task, students individually voted for the best of 2 random samples from each group. Finally, the top sample from each team was up for a final class vote. Student engagement and writing output was off the charts! It definitely an activity we’ll repeat.
Congratulations to the following 6th grade students for receiving a shout-out from a classmate:
Jacob Hoffbauer
Kristin Ruf
Colton Huber
Also congratulations to Jayden Clark for receiving Mrs. Ariens' "ELA Rockstar of the Week" award for this week. Jayden comes into my class with a positive attitude and is willing to help with anything I need. He is always caught up on his work. Way to go, Jayden!
Sixth grade visited the Courthouse for a tour and to see the "American Revolution Experience."
From Mrs. Wurzelbacher
In Mrs. Wurzelbacher’s 8th grade math class, students prepared for their chapter test by playing Trashketball. They worked in small teams to solve a problem on the board. Any teams who get the answer correct receive a point, and the chance to earn a second point by shooting a paper ball into the trash can. If all teams were not able to answer correctly, a student demonstrates how they got to the correct answer with the guidance of the teacher. It was a hit!
From Mrs. Brown
Mrs. Brown's 8th-grade science classes currently explore the atmospheric layers and how energy changes. In the near future, the students will make models that show unobservable mechanisms in the atmosphere. In the advanced class, they are analyzing each layer's project.
All eighth-grade students have been trying to finalize their freshman schedules for the high school and will be submitting them to a counselor on Monday, February 10th. Please know the graduation requirements for this class have changed. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with the Franklin County High School guidance department.

FFA Basketball is a time honored tradition! This week our FC team traveled to North Decatur to play, but unfortunately lost in the first round to a much bigger Switzerland County team. But they had a lot of fun and can't wait for next year!
