Attendance
Whole School Attendance this week - 93.4%
We are aiming for at least 97% - let's work together to make this happen!!
Please remember that if your child is going to be absent from school you should call school before 8.30am to report this. If they are off for multiple days, you should call school each day that they are off. If your child is suffering from something such as a cough or cold we do recommend that you send them into school and see how they get on. It is amazing how many children perk up once they get into school and we can assure you that if it becomes evident that a child should not be in school we will make contact with yourself as parent/carer.
As a school, our attendance has greatly improved over the last year and this is all thanks to you and the effort you are making in getting your children into school every day.
Weekly Reflection
This week across school we have marked refugee week. Every year, in June, Refugee Week helps to highlight the experience of refugees. It takes place across the world in the week around World Refugee Day on 20 June - which is today!
It is a special time to think about the experience of refugees. As well as helping us to get a better idea of how hard it has been for refugees in the past, it also helps us to think about the ways in which we can welcome refugees to support them to a positive future.
Many refugees’ experiences are very sad and include suffering and loss. It must be very, very hard to be forced to leave your home. It must be difficult to make a long and dangerous journey to find safety. It must feel lonely and frightening to come to a new country. That is why it is very important that our school is a place that welcomes refugees so they can feel safe and cared for.
Our school is a School of Sanctuary and we were awarded a special award for showing kindness to refugees from different countries.
We hope all our children who come from different countries feel at home here at Central Walker. We are so proud of the brave, wonderful people you all are. Thank you for choosing us as your school family.
Safeguarding
Whilst the current hot weather is a welcome break from a typical British summertime, it’s important to make sure that the children in your care are staying safe in the sun. As well as being more vulnerable to things like sunstroke and dehydration, children’s skin is very delicate and can be easily damaged by the sun.
Please have a look at some top tips on how to keep children (and yourself) safe in the sun which will help you stay safe AND cool!
