May 2023
Woops!
Hello there, Huskies!
Just wanted to apologize for the lack of an April Newsletter! The end of the year rush is upon us and time got away from me - I try to post at the beginning of each month and with spring break ending and a 4 day week when we got back, the newsletter simply sat there ready to be shared.
So, this months newsletter will be a 2 for 1 deal! It will feature updates from March as well as April, in addition to important information for May.
Hope your April went well, and let's finish the year strong!

March was Reading Month!
The theme for Reading Month was Pirates! To get them in the spirit, students participated in an adventurous sail to find the treasure of books! We also had a visitor - author Carol Trembath! She wrote The Water Walkers Series and came to the school to share her beautiful books with us! We had many question of the week winners, and even held a Read-A-Thon fundraiser! Thank you to everyone who helped our kiddos succeed during our Pirate Reading Month!
Congratulations, Readers!
Congratulations to the top 3 readers in each classroom during reading month!
Elementary Fine Arts Night
Bagels, Books, and Buddies
“Buddies, Books and Bagels” was a Booming Success!
What an amazing morning!!
April 21st was our 2nd Annual “Buddies, Book and Bagels” event. This year we doubled our adult buddy attendance!! A great breakfast was had by all thanks to Mrs. Collins, Mrs. Baldwin and their Wonderful Kitchen Staff!
To add to our morning, students participated in a Book Swap. Those who brought a book could leave it on the designated table and choose a new book. Many also chose to participate in the BOGO Book Fair and purchase a book(s) to leave for others on the swap table or to take home. Thank you to Mrs. Dayringer and her crew for opening up the BOGO Book Fair and allowing our families to participate. She collected over $1100 in just over an hour's time!
As well, students with adults attending were given a bag full of learning activities at their specific grade level to be used at home. So many bags were desired, that additional bags had to be made up and sent home with families who left their child’s name with our Title Staff. It is great knowing that students will be worked with at home!
A HUGE thank you to the Title Staff for all your hard work planning, creating, and working this event! Thank you to our teachers for allowing flexibility for this day with students filtering into classrooms upon completing breakfast with their special buddy. And most importantly, a HUGE thank you to our students and their families for joining us for this event and making it yet again, a GREAT SUCCESS!!

MS/HS Updates
March & April Updates from Mrs. Aviña's Spanish Classes
Students are decorating the cascarones and writing Spanish colors, greetings and goodbyes, emotions, and many more words and expressions. The next step is to fill them with confetti, cover the hole with colored tissue paper, and wait for Easter Monday where we will smash the eggs over each others heads!
We also made and smashed our own piñatas!

April was School Library Month!

Month(s) in Photos!
A big Huskie thank you to officers Ramereiz, Weslock, and Tahvonen and K-9 Maverick, who visited us this month and presented their K-9 Narcotics work & internet and cell phone safety. They also enjoyed lunch with some of our stduents.
7th Grade Social Studies classes collaborated to create a giant timeline and world map. The timeline represents all of the main historical events they studied throughout the year and is color coded by millennium. The map has color coded triangle markers indicating where those events occured. The students have worked very hard putting this project together and did a fantastic job!
Advanced Chemistry students investigated natural food dyes. THey used red onions, turmeric, purple cabbage, and yellow onion skins to make dyes to color the eggs.
Congratulations to Ava Brzak and Elarae Carey for advancing in the MSAC traveling talent show!

Bond Updates
As we get back into the swing of things after Spring Break, we had several projects being worked on during the break. The MS gym was repainted as the first coat had issues adhering to the wall. We also have had the base trim installed in all of the MS/HS classrooms.
As we look to summer, we have several additional projects slated to be completed. The HS gym floor will be replaced and the elementary gym floor will be sanded, painted, and finished. Both buildings will have AC installed to provide relief on the hotter days. We will also have our transportation/bus parking lot and fences redone. We will also have both buildings parking lots resealed and the service drive off McClelland paved.
After this summer's projects are completed, we should have just over $1 million remaining in our bond funds to look at completing another round of projects. This includes some additional painting, flooring, and doors around the district.
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we continue to improve our district facilities.
