From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
It’s Wurstbraten weekend! This 52-year strong tradition continues as we get ready to bless our community and raise funds for important projects at Zion by serving up our delicious sausage. If you’re planning to volunteer this weekend, thank you. And if you can’t volunteer, please support us by purchasing some famous Walburg sausage! You can buy sausage by the pound this Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm, and sausage plates as well as sausage by the pound this Monday from 4 pm to 7 pm.
Commitment Sunday, when we pledge how we plan to support Zion’s ministry over the coming year, was already two weekends ago, but if you haven’t yet pledged for 2025, there’s still time. Just email our business manager, Steve Cashio, at steven.cashio@zionwalburg.org with your pledge. Remember, we use the pledges we receive to form the foundation of Zion’s annual budget, so your pledge is very important.
In worship this weekend, we’ll celebrate All Saints’ Day, and we’ll remember and give thanks for the lives God gave to those who have passed safely into Jesus’ arms over the past year. We’ll also discover what it truly means to be a saint by looking at an encounter Jesus has with some religious leaders in Mark 12:13-17:
Later the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch Him in His words. They came to Him and said, “Teacher, we know that You are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because You pay no attention to who they are; but You teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?” But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap Me?” He asked. “Bring Me a denarius and let Me look at it.” They brought the coin, and He asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” And they were amazed at Him.
People often think of saints as those who have lived extraordinarily good and moral lives. But Jesus’ definition of a saint is different. Find out what His definition is – and whether you qualify – this Sunday in worship. We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!

Master Planning Committee Feedback
The Master Planning Committee (MPC) wants to hear your feedback, answer your questions, and ask for volunteers for future sub-committees. Please review the concept diagrams located on the MPC table in the Lobby and submit a feedback form with your comments and/or questions. Your feedback is very important! Please let us know what you like and what we missed, so we can plan for the future needs of Zion. Drop your feedback form in the MPC feedback box, or submit it electronically to church@zionwalburg.org. Thank you!
Family Day of Giving and Thanks
On November 27 at 9 am, Zion will be sharing meal kits with nearby families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford a Thanksgiving dinner. You can sign up here to help bless a family on Thanksgiving Eve. If you can’t help pass out meal kits, you can still donate to help purchase perishable food items for these kits by writing “Thanksgiving” in the memo portion of a check written to Zion.
Wurstbraten 2024
Wurstbraten is fast approaching, and your help is needed! This event provides opportunities to meet new friends and catch-up with many Zion members. Making sausage is always more fun when lots of people are involved. On Saturday, November 2, we need volunteers, starting at 7:00 a.m. There are also MANY opportunities November 1-5 to help. Sign-up sheets are in the Narthex and Lobby or click the button below. Please take the time to sign up, even if you can only commit to a few hours and BRING A FRIEND!
*See the highlighted portions of the work schedule below to see which areas still need help.
Wurstbraten tickets will be available at the Wurstbraten poster area Sunday after 8 a.m. service and before 10:45 a.m. service. $15.00 payable to Zion Lutheran Church.
Lutheran Disaster Care Coat Drive for Hurricane Victims
Lutheran Disaster Care is organizing a Coat Drive to support those impacted by the recent hurricanes in North Carolina. As colder weather approaches, many families are in need of warm coats to stay safe and comfortable.
We are asking all Lutheran churches to participate in this effort by collecting new and gently used coats through November 10. Your donations will make a real difference for those struggling to recover from the devastation.
For more information or to get involved, please contact Dan Cowan 817-992-1138. Together, we can show the love and care of Christ to those in need.
Iron Sharpens Iron
November 10th, 5:30-7:30pm Zion Worship Center
Men- the simple Bible verse of John 20:21 says "Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” Have you felt the tug to tell someone about Jesus or have examples/stories you would like to share in addition to learning more about sharing your faith?
The next Iron Sharpens Iron will focus on examples and stories of sharing your faith as well as how to grow in sharing your faith. Pastor Zach will be our moderator and teacher in helping us learn and grow in this aspect of our walk with Jesus!
We invite you to (anonymously) submit stories and examples of sharing your faith, along with questions you may have about sharing your faith to the email zionwalburg.isi@gmail.com . These questions and stories will be shared/discussed on that evening as information for us to grow and learn about sharing our faith!
We look forward to seeing you there! As always, there will be a free meal and time to get to know each other!
Wurstbraten History Report from Weldon Mersiovsky
As many of you may know, I have recently been accumulating pictures, documents, and stories about Wurstbraten from the very first one in 1971 until now. My original intent was to put this into a book and publish it; however, I have come to the realization that it would be more effective and inclusive to put what I have collected onto a website accessible through our church website. To that end we have purchased and now own the internet domain of wurstbraten.org and now want to solicit from among you anyone who has website design experience and willingness to implement, design, and build the website onto which we can load what has been gathered. I am hoping that we can develop a team that handles all of the functions necessary to do this.
If you would like to help in this regard, please get in contact with me and we can decide on how to proceed.
My email is 49weldon72@gmail.com and my phone is 512-635-6429.
Thank you! Weldon Mersiovsky END

Thank You
Our family and I want to express our sincere thanks for the outpouring of comfort and support since Milton passed into Glory to be with his Lord and Savior. A special word of gratitude to Pastor Zach and PK for their hospital visits. I'm sure Milt heard the prayers and the singing. Special thanks also to everyone who prepared and served the marvelous and abundant fellowship meal following the beautiful service. Also, my personal gratitude to Dr. Jerry Kieschnick, Pastor Zach, PK, and Pastor Kyle for their parts in providing a memorable celebration of Milt's life, giving glory to our loving and merciful God for the assurance that we will meet once again when we are all called to our home in Heaven.

How God Sidetracked an Outreach Training Event ... and Brought a Liberian Man to Faith
Liberia, nestled on the shore of West Africa, holds a unique connection to the United States: Freed U.S. slaves established the republic in 1847. In fact, they named the nation's capital, Monrovia, after U.S. President James Monroe.
Less than half of Liberia's 4.7 million people can read and write. The population is also very young, with nearly two-thirds under age 25.
Anthony lives inland, near Liberia's eastern border where he is a farmer. When we met him, he considered himself a humanist. He possessed a working knowledge of the Bible, but he questioned the existence of a supreme being and felt no need for Jesus.
One day, he noticed volunteers preparing for an event and asked about it. A volunteer explained that Lutheran Hour Ministries was hosting an outreach training workshop for local pastors and church workers. On a whim, he invited Anthony to attend.
For the next 2 days, church workers received training on how to communicate the Gospel to non-Christians. To their surprise, they had Anthony - a non-Christian - in their midst.
Anthony was a lost man searching for answers. As he listened to discussions on evangelism, he asked questions, and participants provided patient answers. Eventually, he turned to basic questions about salvation.
The next day, he returned, eager to hear more about Jesus. His heart was softening. By the end of the workshop, the Holy Spirit brought Anthony to faith. Anthony's search had ended. He had longed for answers and peace ... and God had provided both. Anthony asked the group to pray that God would give him the strength to follow Jesus faithfully.
